: Advice from tractor pullers
Bigkrank 07-30-2008, 03:26 PM We have pulled single cyl and twin cyl modified gas garden tractors for many years. We are now starting into a new turbo diesel class with a 70 cube, one turbo limit. We run a D1105 Kubota. Currently waiting on Columbus Diesel to finish injectors and pump. Running a Garrett T2 turbo A/R 48. We can't seem to get enough boost yet, only 10-12 pounds. I know one guy who said he went to a smaller different turbine side and got it to spin faster and gets 30#. Just wondering if anybody here has any other suggestions.
mx2702001 07-31-2008, 01:17 PM Check out these new Slotted Turbos that Super Farms Guys been talking about and look in to Liquid/Air Intercooler
DieselPro 07-31-2008, 11:54 PM Smaller AR ratio on the exhaust will bring up the boost. More fuel might do it also. I notice this use to have a wastegate exhaust and you put a plate over it. Have you really sealed the wastegate port? Possibly the exhaust back pressure is leaking over internally at the small port in the housing. Any leakage there and the boost will fall off.
Nice Ride!
Bigkrank 08-01-2008, 04:12 AM Building a hybrid turbo with smaller A/R on turbine but want to wait until bigger fuel pump and injectors get done to see what changes with this one.
Big spring holds wastegate shut, turbos we use all come from gas engines.
There are a couple of Deutz diesel engines that use small turbos. I forget the size of them at the moment, but I will get it and post it. Bad thing is they are hard to get parts for.

Sounds like you have your bases coverd, also if you are looking to try a different turbo, Kubota offer's alot of turbo's on there smaller engines. I would wait and see how things work out once you get the pump and injectors on and see how it does.
Very Sharp Rig!
michaeljp86 08-02-2008, 12:55 AM Thats a kick ass little puller, I never seen them with a diesel before but I always wanted to build one.
I think your turbo is the big problem, Im not sure what your looking for but I doubt you will get any more then 20 with dumping more fuel to it.
Bigkrank 08-02-2008, 10:20 AM Rules have intake and compressor wheel specs but basically limits you to a Garrett T2 style, I know IHI and Mitsubishi make small ones also but I have collected a lot of Garrett/AirResearch parts so I will stick with that.
There is one guy claims he runs 60# boost but I don't know. I do know that 30# is the norm.
The kubota turbos for this engine are way too small. If I don't get my new fuel stuff before next weekend I'll put the hybrid on, all the flow chart numbers say that will definitely do it.

Bigkrank 08-14-2008, 10:29 AM Tried my home assembled hybrid turbo on an exibition run last weekend and it was pretty good. Got rained out and have to wait till Sunday for next pull.

It would be better if it was green :D
1 tough duallie 08-16-2008, 02:28 AM how about this lil turbo its a mitsu/ garrett hybrid ,modified TD06 compressor housing and 7cm2 turbine housing with a clipped TD06H turbine wheel and a big Garrett compressor wheel
or i know of a few other turbos that would get u the boost u want with the fuel u have ;)
Bigkrank 08-18-2008, 07:46 AM Don't have a video.
I was going to build another one and make a John Deere hood for it but not right now.
Little turbo looks interesting, sent you a PM
mx2702001 08-18-2008, 11:24 AM New Green pullers comming every year so somthing else would be a bigger eye catcher
Bigkrank 08-18-2008, 12:23 PM No small green ones around here anymore, got IH, Allis, NewHolland, Ford etc but all the JD sheet metall ones don't pull right near here anymore so a green one would add the color in this area. Originally was going to build this one too look like a McCormick since there is another Case IH Farmall hood on one in our club.
