: Are all Duramax Techs' created equal?
bollweevil 03-01-2005, 01:38 PM Hey guys, I have a few friends that are GM mechanics and wouldn't trust them to change my fuel filter. Both of the (supposedly) "Duramax techs" that I have talked with in my hometown seem to be more concerned with what time they get off than learning about how to troubleshoot or become knowledgable of the Duramax/Allison product. Question is....Do you folks know of a real Duramax tech in central or eastern NC?
I really don't have alot of faith in my guys north of Raleigh. Sad, but true!
Thank you very much in advance.:o:
dmaxalliTech 03-01-2005, 01:51 PM I can answer NO to your opening statement.
You will find that the techs on this board do show a bit of concern for the customer, more so then the average guy. I am sure that there are some owners in your area that may be able to help you find a good shop in your area.

How can you say such a thing? I thought all the dealers cared for the proper training of techs? Oh wait thats right, GM took away half the training centers in this area.
patrick 03-01-2005, 10:36 PM :exactly: -:t
dealers are the pits. There are maybe 12 or so good dmax techs in the nation....techs you care more about there customer and the work than thay do time....GM will keep cuttingthe times on everything.....Injectors are 8 hrs And i hop Eric you flagging 8 not less....we all need a hand in the form for all we have endured. I feel like I crossed sides. i am not at the dealer anymore, best thing.....I miss seeing all the dmax trucks. Keep up the good work....:grd: :grd: :grd:
dmaxalliTech 03-01-2005, 10:51 PM Patrick is the smartest off all the dealer tech I know.. he got the hell out of the dealer
It wont be much longer and Merchant Automotive will be full time gig...
Max Payne 03-02-2005, 10:50 AM No doubt! I happen to be able to give my customers the royal treatment because my dealer puts heavy emphasis on customer service... They make sure I get taken care of if I lose my arse on a job if I made the customer happy... That is what I am still here for.
DavesDmax 03-02-2005, 11:59 AM Techs are like any other profession. You got good ones, bad ones, and the super stars. I like to think that the techs that help us out here are the super stars.
D.Camilleri 03-03-2005, 12:17 AM It is really sad that dealers of all brands are having a hard time keeping good techs or even attracting them, because the dealers as a whole won't take care of the tech. There are some flat rate times out there that CAN'T be made, and why should anyone go to work to loose money. I have a friend with an 02 Cummins that has been chasing a hard start problem. After last trip to dealer to replace injector sealing washers, he now has a non firing injector, a problem that wasn't there when the truck went in for service. Now he is having to tow the truck 170 miles to another dealer to get a propper fix, even though there is a great Cummins tech in town with his own shop, but Dodge won't pay him. This dealer is so cheap that they won't even send their tech's to school.Censored All they care about is selling new vehicles. Why not just lower the price of these new trucks 8,000 and delete the warranty! Then we can fix them ourselves.
I am glad to see that there are some good techs on this board and I hope your dealerships continue to take care of you.
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 12:22 AM Yup, the dealership takes great care of us techs, so much so that I cant wait to get the hell out....
The experienced tech suffers IMO, the new younger generation of 'techs' make more money then I do for the most part. My W-2 is down 28k from 04 to 02.... Real good care of us.....
Max Payne 03-03-2005, 10:42 AM What I meant to say is GM screws us over hard. My butthole hurts all the time. But, my DEALERSHIP takes care of me if they see me trying hard to help a customer, they know I am getting screwed. Kinda like the PS pump recall, it pays .9 when Mitchell pays 2.5 for the same job. WTF?
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 11:23 AM You guys do any of the 3.1/3.4 intakes in the carline? What kind of time are you getting those done in?
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 11:33 AM cobra, we do shop wide about 10 a day.
I did a U van yesterday in about 2 hours start to finish. Mostly depends on my ambition level
Max Payne 03-03-2005, 01:04 PM cobra, we do shop wide about 10 a day.
I did a U van yesterday in about 2 hours start to finish. Mostly depends on how many times I need a Diesel Place break ):h
dmaxalliTech 03-03-2005, 02:28 PM dang, read right in to that one didnt ya...lol
Cobra#3747 03-03-2005, 02:46 PM LOL... I dont do many on the vans, cars I have down to 42 min, when not on here...Other wise 1.5 screwing off. Gm warranty rep asked why we do some many intakes here vs other dealers in the area. I figured it was cause no one knows how to get them done and avoided them.
Blkvoodoo 03-04-2005, 12:02 AM I am not a tech, I just play one at a dealership in Raleigh, someday they may even send me to school on the 6.6, seems I already have a date for 4h-6h engines in June.
I do a good job, really, you should come see.
Bobby Murray, inside the beltline. Ask for Kevin I'll even be late for lunch if the need arises! ;)

patrick 03-04-2005, 09:10 PM I saw a 3.1 intake done 25 min. I put $50 on it and lost... That was off cleaned and on and running....
Ever get the push tubes backwords?????
Cobra#3747 03-04-2005, 09:28 PM One guy did, S'd the push rod nicely. Another shop classic is that clown that got the timing chain on wrong when doing a 2.4 water pump, put a hole in the piston with the valve on that one.
25 min :grd: Thats crazy, I thought I was doing good at 42 min...Censored
dmaxalliTech 03-04-2005, 10:49 PM 25 min? How long does it take him the second time? Since its probably for free, he better be fast
Cobra#3747 03-04-2005, 11:06 PM My 42 min does not include start up or oil change.
This 25 min was the lower intake and not just the upper right?
