Was browsing around Banks and Bullydog, and found ECM tuners that can be plugged into the OBDll systems that will allow you tweak the engine to different user settings. Does anyone know if there is system out there for the OBDl system that will work with the 6.5L?

No, you have to download a tune onto a new prom on OBDI and you can program it in from a hand held on obdII because it uses eproms.

So what you're saying is that I can get an OBDI prom and flash it on an OBDII programmer with whatever tune I setup?

On the 94 and 95 you just replace the Eprom in your stock computer, takes about 20 minutes. Call www.kennedydiesel.com and he will set you up, about $250 if I remember correctly.

OBDI proms are programmed once and only the chip is swapped, OBDII eproms can be reflashed and the entire ECM is programmed. not the same thing.

OBDI uses EPROMs (Electronically Programmable Read Only Memory) that once programmed, are only erasable via Ultraviolet light (under the label on top of the chip, there is a window that'll let in light when you put it into a UV burner).
OBDII uses EEPROMs (Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) that can be programmed and erased electronically.

I think you're mistaken. The way I read it the 95+ obdII 32 bit flash was originally programmed onto eproms with the UV window and the upgrades are the newer eeproms that don't have to be erased first. 16 bit proms are write once.

What about using Flash Eproms?

You would have to re-do the plug for the ecm and ALDL, maybe GMCTD could add some more to that.

....You guys are making this harder than it is
94-95 6.5 ECM is no electronic marvel, if you want to change the programming, you buy a new prom. Can't change anything from the diagnostic port.

What I'm looking for or what I would like to do change settings while out on the road. Example: I want a tune that will give the best mileage on the road. When I go off road I want to be able to switch over, or retune, to get the best performance but not necessarily the best milage. I've never changed the prom in this truck and am not familiar with the exact location of it as well. Is it a pain to get too, could I carry a few prom's with me and change it on the road? Is it possible, with a little ingenuity, to construct a remote prom adaptor or could I simily relocate the ECM?

I don't even think there is a system that can do that on the OBDII 6.5s, for sure not on the OBDIs.

From what Bullydog and Banks have, you can change your tunes to different settings.

Keep in mind that these are for the D-Max. So again is it possible to just change the prom on the road without too much hassle?

...I guess, just pull the glove box panel out, unplug the ECM and remove one screw to get access...5 min job I guess, is that a hassle? Certainly not as cool as 'On-The-Fly'
