: How much do you pay?
HDINNC 02-28-2005, 11:38 PM For those of you that do not change your own oil, how much does it cost you to get the job done? I have a guy that "comes to my house" and changes mine for $47.00 plus tax. I am in the landscaping business so, I don't have time to take mine in somewhere during the day. $47.00 might be high compared to doing it yourself I guess. How about ya'll?
NWDmax 02-28-2005, 11:45 PM $25.00 is the cost when I do it myself.10 quarts at a $1.49 a quart and a filter for $10.00 give or take.I've had 2 bad experiences in the past so no more "quickie lubes" for me.
MSP2AK 02-28-2005, 11:49 PM I bought a lifetime oil change option from the dealer for about $550. Relegates me to using dino oil, but allows me to keep the oil clean as I can change it as often as every 3 months/3k miles. Dealers hours are great, including open Saturdays for oil changes, so getting it in and out usually takes me only about an hour, two tops.
I know some will tell me changing dino oil every 3k is a waste...... Noted. The bottom line is I expect to get free OE filters and regular oil changes for a very long time as I expect to keep this truck for many years to come.
Steamboat 03-01-2005, 06:46 AM Use to do it myself but went and talked to the local Express Lube owner and if I supply all materials and he only does the oil change (no vacuuming or cleaning) then it's $10, he carries the oil I use so I just supply the oil filter (bought a case of them when I first got the truck) and he does the whole deal using my oil filter for $25, when I run out of filters and use all of his services and parts the price will go to $35.
1BADDMAX 03-01-2005, 07:48 AM I do the same as NWDmax. The only time I did not change the oil was when it was being serviced for injectors. About $25 to $30 every 5k sure beats $50 plus. I also get a chance to check the undercarriage and grease the chasis. Most lube places only get the easily accessible zerk fittings.
skoryaro2 03-01-2005, 08:24 AM I figured that my last DIY oil change cost me about $23 using Rotella T (dino) and a Delco filter.

At first I thought $550 for lifetime oil changes was kind of high, but after figuring it out..........if you change oil every 5K by yourself and it costs $25 each change it would take 22 oil changes until you spent $550. After 22 changes you would have driven 110,000 miles. So you would have to keep your truck longer than that to be ahead of the game.
marcdeluca 03-01-2005, 09:35 AM I don't trust others to service my ride. I have heard too many stories about people not getting the chassis lubed even though they paid for it, even from dealers.
jbrink01 03-01-2005, 09:41 AM $35 at the dealer, wife's cost, she's an employee.
OmyLLwhy 03-01-2005, 09:53 AM They want $60.00 at the dealer that I stoped at, No thanks!!!
snowpeke 03-01-2005, 09:56 AM $41 for me.
blnagel 03-01-2005, 10:46 AM Wal Mart was closing out on their Rotella synthetic for $11. I bought several. Filters I buy from a filter distributing place for $7-8. I want to switch to new Mobil filters for better filtration.

StraitDiesel 03-01-2005, 11:03 AM I can change my own with oil and filter from wal-mart for $23... my dealer wants $60, that's outrageous!

Me too! The more you change, the cheaper it gets per change. Totally blows away the extended oil change argument for synthetic.

That goes double for me!
Turbotug 03-01-2005, 03:43 PM Well, I used to be able to do it for about $25 when I was getting Delvac 1300 from Wal-mart and a Mobile filter from Auto-zone, but all the Wal-mart stores in my area have quit carrying the Delvac 1 and 1300. I visited one location and called a few others and they only have Delo now (not that I believe it's bad), they don't even have the "Truck and SUV" any more. Have any of you noticed this in your area? I can still get it at Auto-zone, but last time I checked it was almost twice as much there.

your not counting your time as being worth anything ... not including if the oil runs all the way down your arm ):h ):h ):h
