which new 1 did you use? was it the 1 that needs a new harness, is all plastic and sounds like a power door lock? did you wire the brown wire to the transfer case switch brown wire?

Next big question did your new actuator come with a spacer? the new style actuator must have a spacer.

Did your old actuator blow your fuse or did you wiring in the new harness?

i'd take it back and then buy the Posi-Lok setup. no more electrical, thermo wiring crap

the new set up from gm works great. but it has to be wired right and have the spacer. and isnt themro any more. wooks more like power dood locks.
mine has been in for 7 years. and worked with fail

I couldn't use the new black plastic one from GM on my 92 and 94, it was to big around, it hit the axle housing.

My 94 now has the posi-lock, it got to where it wouldn't disengage with the stock actuator(weird).

the new one had the harness on it and all I had to do was screw it in place of the old one and plug it in. At first it aced kinda wierd wanting to engae on it's own and now it just will not engage. I do not have the money to put locking hubs on it now and nor do I want to. I like the shift on the fly.... Just pisses me off, the dam thing cost $120 at O'Rieley's and they were the only ones open on a Saturday that had one. I did not have to wire in anything though, it was OEM style and has lifetime replacement.

metal or plastic body on the actuator

did you check the fuse? the 2nd design is plastic and way better but cost more money.
after you put it in did it ever work or was that the first time you tried it

Have you replaced the right axle seal by any chance?

nationfam

no on axle seal, when I replaced actuator the old one was engaging on it's own. Upon install of new one it did the same thing 3x and then did not do it again. NOW I cannot get it to engage. There was not a shim/spacer with the new one either.

What was it dooing before you replaced it?

shim is for the plastic style. I have only seen the metal one in 1 size. you could try to remove the actuator and with 1 hand spin drive shaft while you use about a 6' extension if it lock the ft shaft ( with wheels on the groung) the diff is ok. if while you push the extension in it wont lock the ft shaft you would need to drop the right axle tube. the fuse is in the in cab fuse box it is about 20 or 25 amps.

I will check this tomorrow evening and get back to this thread. Thanx a ton friend!

Without the spacer, and the right harness, it won't engage anyways...

it sounds like he has the 1st design so no spacer or wiring needed

did not check it yet, fell in pool at a child b-day aprty, and hit head on tile coping. My actuator is the 1st design (metal), I will check the fuse first before doing any mechanical tests.

Get rid of this Thermal Actuator crap ! These are prone to failure.
Put a posi-lock in and done. Works everytime as it should and you also get the benefit of 2-Low for manouvring trailer on tarmarq, when the torque of the low range is needed, but without the binding in the steering while making sharp turns.

Got the same problem with mine. Replaced it with the pos-lock and never had any problems again.

The posi-lock isnt locking hubs, it replaces the electric solenoid with a cable you pull from the cab that locks the differential between the front axles. its $200 from

Okay, I thought the transfer case on my truck is "ALWAYS" engaged since it is connected to the rearend of the transmission and pulling the actuator lever in the cab just set the actuator in or out of 4x4. If I am wrong please enlighten me......I know not everything but am willing to listen and learn.

2-Low for manouvring trailer on tarmarq, when the torque of the low range is needed, but without the binding in the steering while making sharp turns.

Is this available on all years or only early models? I have a 99 k2500 suburban and the 2LO would be nice for moving stuff around the yard.

yeah I figured it would be....Anyways, no fuses blown and it will not go into 4x4 still. The indicator does not come on and you can just tell it aint in 4x4. I guess I got a bad actuator, will remove and return it then try again. Note: I can hear it try to actuate when I put the selector in reverse but it just don't get there.

the switch on top of the t case is for that actuator. If there are just 2 pins jump them. that would rule out the switch.

I will check it out, thanks!
