My gauge reads about 1/8 tank remaining when in fact it is about empty. I checked the fuel gauge sender and it appears to be OK. There did not seem to be any abnormal wear on the grid. It also worked to go to empty when I Hooked it up out of the tank to check it out. Is there a problem with the servo motor??? Is it possible to fit it myself???

Maybe your float arm was bent improperly during installation. Measure the distance from the mounting flange to the bottom of the tank and compare it to the distance the float drops to indicate empty. It could be your float is hitting the bottom of the tank before the arm moves the wiper to the empty point on the resistance element.

its funny you say that, when i fill upon empty, it takes ten gallons to go back to half, but the it taks 16 gallons to go to full.

Never seen a GM truck that read properly (since a 1988 anyway). For the 34 gal, 3/4 tank showing equals 2/3 actual. 1/2 showing equals 1/3 actual. Empty still has 4-6 gallons remaining.
2006 works better than my 98 though: the FULL means full (the 98 was 120% for full)...

If that is so, how can I put over 33 gal in my 34 gal tank when it still shows 1/8 or more on the gauge?

Mine ran out of fuel on 1/8 a couple times. The fuel guage is worthless, I just go by the mileage

I've had both the sending unit and the instrument cluster replaced with no change in accuracy of the fuel gauge. I just reset the DIC at every fill and use the PERSONAL GALLONS feature. It seems to be accurate within about 1 to 1-1/2 gallons per fill.

I'd have that fuel station audited by weights/measure.
Let me clarify my prior statement. In my example, these are the results I have seen on my own truck. My buddy with a 26-gal GMC needs to run like hell to the gas station when the fuel light comes on (less than 15 miles range). Myself, I was able to go 60+ miles without running dry before refueling (and then only picking up 29 gallons to top of filler neck)...

My gauge is crap too.
I had the steal work on it 4 times under waranty. I ran out of fuel at 1/8 gauge once.
Now 1/2 is about 10 gal left. 1/4 is about 7 gal left and empty is who knows what.

I hate the fuel gauge in the dmax
F to 3/4 = 220 miles
3/4 to 1/2 = 220 miles
1/2 to 1/4 = 120 miles
1/4 to E = 50-60 miles
On my previous truck (gasser) each quarter = exactly 100 miles with about 50 miles left once the gas light came on.
