Hi I have a severe engine problem related to the glowpugs in my 6.5L Diesel. One of my glow plugs burnt out and the worst possible thing happened. A piece of it has fallen into the cylinder!

Now the truck makes a horrible ticking sound and I am afraid to drive it. Since I have no garage and the weather here is cold I don't really want to take the head off if I don't have to. I was thinking that I could try holding the exhaust valve open and blowing compressed air in through the intake valve to attempt to blow the piece out. Or I was thinking of taking out the injector and attempting to pull the piece out with a magnet.

Has anyone had to deal with this or does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated!:)

Try it thru the injector, first - possibly it is still in the pre-cup.......

Compressed air will help to move it. Worst case it will lead to a piston crack across the crown or it will blow out.
