: Another fuel mileage ?? (getting crappy)
Kurt W. 02-28-2005, 11:30 AM My mileage is down to around 13.5. I took it to the dealer and had it plugged in to see if any codes popped up and nothing. I have changed the air and fuel filter and didn't help. They couldn't tell me anything else that I could do. I'm not driving any different then before but I do drive alot of short trips. You guys getting 19+ doing alot of highway driving? Mine was getting that when I first bought last July but it has gone down hill since. Maybe if I run the crap out of it will do better. Any input?
MrsSpoolin 02-28-2005, 11:34 AM Winter fuel. Make sus have crap milage too. Mid-April can't come fast enough.
duramaxedout 02-28-2005, 02:12 PM I get am getting about 19 mpg on a dirty fuel filter and in Denver stuck running the winter blend of crap. I usually get about 20-22 mpg. Try running an fuel additive through. Sounds like they put a Cummins in your truck instead of a Dmax...that's about what they get for mileage! Sounds like something else is wrong, try dmallitech the guy is a dmax wizard.
7997redtail 02-28-2005, 02:25 PM I just did a 403 mile trip on 19.2 Imp. gallons. No big load. I had four people, food and gear for a weekernd. It works out to 20.98 miles to the gallon. The DIC said i was getting 16.3 MPG. Are you using the DIC?
dieselfumes57 02-28-2005, 02:32 PM i never more than 375 miles per tank on a short bed which is 26 gal tank !
marky 02-28-2005, 03:01 PM If you are running a bunch of short trips thats going affect mileage more in the winter than in the summer. The truck maybe just getting up to temp on each trip. I saw a drop of about 2mpg with the onset of winter. I am currently getting about 13mpg, but am nearly always pulling a 3 horse gooseneck.
Kurt W. 02-28-2005, 04:19 PM I just filled up today, got 22.12 gallons and its a 26 gallon tank. I got 299 miles out of that tank!! I have additives but sometimes forget to put it in. I do have 285's over the stock 245's so the speedo and trip meter will be off. How do I calculate that to justify for the tire change? And what is DIC?
sledhauler 02-28-2005, 04:27 PM My best so far was 20.5 with winter fuel driving empty on a 300 mile trip , temps between 10 below and 15 above. around town mileage is poor. this week towing three sleds on an open trailer i got 18. i think the juice helps me out alot. cant wait to see what i get this summer.
Duratys 02-28-2005, 05:03 PM Your speedo and trip meter will be off. you will have to get a programer to re-cal for tier size to get that back to normal. DIC = Driver Info Centre
Kurt W. 02-28-2005, 10:01 PM Ahhh!, DIC...............I didn't know you can get that info from that? Is there a way of turning it on and off? I was surpised that it didn't come on when I changed my fuel filter at 20k.

I think that only the '03 and up have the mileage figures in the DIC. Im pretty sure that the older trucks just had the box on the left side of the cluster and not the text bar across the bottom. I know that my dad's '03 has it but my '99 1/2 ton only has the box on the left.

The DIC is the Driver Information Center, it comes on the LT/SLT models only (I think). It calculates your MPG but after reading this post I wonder if it works. Here is a great website to calculate the difference between your stock tires and current www.discountpartcenter.com/tirecalc.html (http://www.discountpartcenter.com/tirecalc.html) The difference from Stock and current on your truck is about 8%. You could take your mileage and add 8% to get the true miles driven. Dan

Thanks for that info, I saved that site for any future changes....very helpful. With that it comes out to around 14.57, which is better but still sucks. And yes the DIC I have is just the box to the left, it doesn't come across the mileage gauge.
dmax2102 03-02-2005, 03:01 AM last week i only got 12.5 mpg and mine is a 02 also
kbstinky 03-02-2005, 05:09 PM Just got back from LA, put in 47 gal and got 17.1 mpg, for the round trip.
Not bad. Cruise set at 75, Edge in Level 1, ho hotrodding.
Just sat back and held on.
Never downshifted going over the Grapevine, as it has in the past.
Kurt W. 03-05-2005, 11:09 AM I take it you guys got the good deisel all year round.........must be nice.:)
