Honestly, I would love to have an old JD D. My dad had one for years that he got from his dad. It was in parts and needed bearings. He never did get that project finished and after about 20 years of storing the tractor, he just got rid of it a few years back.

He tells stories about that 2 banger and how he loved the sound of it going through the field under a load. Or the pht, pht, pht, pht, when you first started it because of the pressure reliefs.

I would love to have one of these. I wouldn't want a show stopper, because I would want it to be used yet. But this is the tractor I would love to have and would love to see my dads face when he saw and heard it come out of the barn.

Always have had a wild hair for a JD 6030. I recall sitting in a brand new one at the dealership in Medicine Lake, MT. Big diamond tread fronts and 24.5-32 duals on the rear. Dad said no....! They are kinda scarce.

1. IH 1468 or 1568
2. IH 1456
3. IH 7288 or 7488

If we are talking something we are going to use everyday and put hours on, it would be a Case IH 535 Quad or a 335 Magnum...the ones we currently have are close, but the new large framer Steigers look down right MEAN in the front.

Wow, thats hard to believe, the JDs take the cake here. The fair is next week and Ill have to see if I can get some pics of those 6030s. I runs in 2 classes, he will put like 6,000 of weights on then run in the next class. These tractors dont sound like a diesel, then run real smooth and have a ungodly amout of black smoke blowing out. This guy has some real talent with these machines. These are all in farm stock and hes building a super stock 6030.

A few IH tractors at the fair do ok, the 1066, 966, and the like do pretty well and do win alot but the JDs do better in almost every class. Some friends have two 560s and they are in the top 3 almost every year.

The best was like a 18,000lb class. All these big time farmers with their brand new case ih, jd, new holland with duels front and back, mfwd. Then comes this POS white field boss. This was beat to hell and 2wd, no chance in hell against all those new machines. That thing was so loud your elephant ear would vibrate off the plate. I think there was just as much smoke comming out of the crank case vent as there was going out the exhaust pipe. It sounded like it ran slow, like 1000rpm but it rolled real slow all the way down and took 1st.

Around here, if its not red you might as well not even bother hooking up in a class above 10,500 because you start pulling against pretty good running IH's, mainly 1066's, 1466's, couple 86's, and a '88 or two. There is a pretty stout 4840 Deere that pulls in 18,500 and its the only one that can keep up. Unless the 6030's are turning around 400 or more HP, which they very well could be, it would be hard keeping up. Our 1566 Black Stripe is turning some pretty serious H.P. for a Out of the Field class, Throw it in High 3rd with the TA back, get it moving and flip the TA ahead and let her go. I wasent saying a Deere cant compete, but IH's are tough to beat.

The farm I help out on has a 6030. The only issue is, I think it is going to need transmission work sometime. It is a beast. The engine was just redone. The owner put a new crank in it, new sleeves, pistons, and the pump was gone through if memory serves me right. The engine in this one I guess was rare so stuff was hard to find.

The other downfall (as a useful farm tractor) is that it has an oversized PTO on it so you need to run adapters to make anything normal fit. It needs some TLC but man does it PULL! The only thing that can stop it is lack of traction.

This tractor, I think, will be up for sale in about 5 years. From what I know, the owner is going to sell out around that time. I have my eyes on the 4020's. Even though they are beat to hell to. The transmissions are getting weak, clutches getting weak, and running the beet lifters fried the hydraulics. Everything still works and it is still a functional tractor, it's just that it doesn't work as well as it should!

The friend who had my 484 had his 6030 running about 400hp. The guy at the fair who collects the 6030s must have his about 600hp, they cant be stopped.

There is another guy at the fair who lives on a dairy farm, he is pure red and has some talent on building a engine. Theres flames out the exhaust on some of them and they move. He had a new one there last year souped up like a super stock but had duel ag bar treads on the back. I didnt think the transmission would hold up but he had it in a high gear and they watch speed so he never ran it full throttle.

Is this PTO common on bigger tractors? I mostly work with vinyard machines, but dream about the big iron. :D

Oh, we can stop him! Just kidding, but it would be a good show, our 1566 is turning a shade over 600, and the 1066 is well over that, but we cant pull that in Out of Field because of a few things. The transmission's actually hold up pretty well, obviously you have to do a little work in them to beef them up a bit, but for the most part they hold up pretty well. They don't watch our speeds out here so its wide open from the start. Our local pull is this Saturday night, so we will be pulling in 5000, 12,500, 18,500 and 22,500 Out of Field, and 9500 Open...5 different tractors...should be fun!

I like my 6030, I wish I had a couple more.

There are alot of good tractors out there, but there is just something about a 6030. Like someone mentioned they had the exact same engine/hp as the 7520, but every one I ever saw had the pumps cranked up.

Mine I'm guessing is in the 250hp range. It'll spin the 20.8-38 duals full of water in seventh gear on dry ground pulling a 22' medium disc(had to try it), but only enough radiator for 4th or 5th which is fast enough anyway..

I have alot of favorites, but for a 100-225hp plow tractor, its at the top of my list. If they had a better cab and bigger radiator it would be almost perfect.

The tractor is basically a 5020 on steroids, turbo'd, aftercooled and bigger axles. The 8sp syncro-range dont seam to hinder it for lack of gears, it has so much brute power it'll either pull it, spin the tires or it'll want to run hot and I'll have to drop a gear.

One thing I like about it is its simple, less stuff to mess up, I'd say its our most dependable tractor with the least upkeep of the ten tractors we have. They had a dry double disk brass buttoned main clutch and hydraulic wet pto clutch.

There heavy though, I dont think they had heard of soil compaction when they built them. There kinda like a big gurl, maybe not much to look at but the ride sure is nice.

I think they designed it on a friday, because I havent driven many tractors that transfer the weight to the rear wheels, atleast in the 100hp+ sizes, like it does. The front end is real light under load but dont have a problem with it pulling the wheels off the ground unless you dump the clutch, lol. I've seen the front four rib tires only leave two lines in sand under load. On dry ground our front wheel assist tractors dont have much on it, put them in 2wd and the 6030 will walk all over them.

I also love the old pop'n johnny's and the new stuff too.

.

In my tractor books it said the 6030 was a popular tractor because the stock engine could gain 50hp or whatever it was with just a turn of a screw. The engines were also built heavy enough to hold up to heavy fuel pump modifications.

WE have a guy in our area that pulls a 6030 in hot stock class. He runs 2700 rpm, pulls in gear custom made 8% over road gear. Has all the power he needs. Ive seen him come half way down the track go sideways and let completly off the throttle to get it straightened out again yank the throttle back again and still put 30' on every one else including some really hot binders and a ford that ran the east coast limited pro points curcuit. If he has a smooth pull he normally puts a good 60' on every one else. It runs just as smooth as can be, no ether to start it up unlike its competition and she still whoops the tar out of every thing it pulls against.

Ive seen the guy at the fair with the 6030 run close to the side of the track and dump the throttle and the front wheels never touched the ground. He would straighten out with the brakes then take off. Running full throttle and 8% over road gear is crazy.

Id like a 6030 but those things are huge, its hard to find room for the 484.

Is this PTO common on bigger tractors? I mostly work with vinyard machines, but dream about the big iron. :D

It's not common at all. There are few implements out there that fit this PTO. But it is a great pulling tractor. I have never used the adapter. Never used this tractor with any PTO driven equipment.

Really the 6030 doesn't get used much. It just isn't that efficient of a tractor for what we do. Our Versatile 936 is the pulling rig now and at approximately 300 gallons for every 11 hours it drinks its own. But, I can dig 320 acres in about 10.5 hours with this rig. That's digging around 3 inches deep in this ND clay base soil.

The 6030 is now hooked to the disc and we disc all the little pieces where housing developements are going up.

He probably had the pump cranked up on it, Ive never blew a engine up and run everything stock. Ive ran the JD 5500 full throttle in wet heavy clay ground with a sub soiler of plow and throw it in road gear and drop the 3pt and see how far I get.

Most of the time I see a blown tractor engine its a bigger plowing tractor.

I want this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1xySbtHEPg&NR=1 3 830 Johnny Poppers hooked together. Donny Dufner is the JD 2 Cylinder King. I would like to have just 1 830 even.

We bought a Cat 865B this year so we got rid of the rest of the list to pay for that b*tch. Cats awfully proud of their equipment

I would love to have some sort of big powered JD puller, I really would take say a nice pro-stocker with say 2000hp or more, and have it ride the wheely bars the length of the track!! I like the 6030 model the best.

I all ready have one of my tractors, 1750 Oliver. And its actually overkill for what I do with it.

If I could have anything,,1570 Case. We had one at the sod farm I worked as a kid. Just something about the way they look :thumb:

We have a pair of them that pull local sometimes, Father/Daughter team. If they show up you may as well figure your not finishing any better than third. Those two tractors flat out fly.

In old tractors,, WD-45. Great nephew has one he pulls in the antique pulls, that thing is incedable

Id like to have the farmall 230, JD 1010, and ferguson TO30 my dad had. My great uncle has the TO30, the farmall and JD got traded in to the JD dealership. I know who bought the 1010, but he was also a used farm equipment dealer at the time so he may have sold it.

I seen a 2wd JD 7810 in a magazine ripping up a field, what a nice looking machine.

I would like an old Allis Chalmers 220 preferably one that was FWA, also really like the 4020s, I remember planting in it when I was real young, it was the our farms big tractor at the time. Then i would also take a 4430 open station to pull. One of the few times I saw my old man cry was when he filed bankruptcy and his 4430 sold at auction, with a few other items.

I seen a 2255 like that on a auction site, I wanted that beast bad. There is a guy at the fair with a 2255, no cab that fully restored. He doesnt have it running right for pulling. It does ok but no smoke at all. Then those are cranked up they dont stop.

I'm a big fan of the sound guard cab Deere's.....the 40, 42, and 44s had a good combination of power for field work yet was a good size for doing chore work.

A white striped 1066, maybe a '72 model to go along with my old K20...but I'd rather have the one my dad sold to Jay Fuqua's dad (owner of Tennessee Trax puller - see garage for pic). I'd let Esdon Lehn tinker with it a little.

A Super M-D with a wide front end.

My uncles 5288 that he sold about 10 years ago. I thought that was the coolest tractor ever when I was a kid.

TN Trax seems to run well as alky burner too hope he can find the time to jump up with the GN tractors and give the blue tractors from WI somthing to contend with. Glad to see you like the King of Smoke Esdon since all the others call him a cheater these days with his Billett Hyper block hes running. Green guys seem to think they need Super Diesel class too they over run Pro Stock thats far enough for them with all these new K&K built machines comming.

I guess my dream tractor would be the biggest jd you could buy, just to see what it would pull. Us "small" farmers can't afford that stuff though.

We have a 50's Inneapolus Moline gasser., a 82 Cockshutt td, a 77 case 4x4, and a 95 case IH (cummins).

Guess which one is the loudest! Yup, our "newest" one, the cummins. Pulls like stink though.

And which one we go to when it's -20! Our good 'ol reliable gasser.

I havenīt heard about the electrical problems. Iīve heard guys complain about the fact that if anything goes wrong on any new tractor, it has to be plugged into a computer to see whatīs wrong with it....But that doesnīt apply here. In my dream, my tractor never breaks down, and I never have to buy new tires or fuel.:D
