Well, it appears my Transfer case started leaking again, although not as bad as before. I guess the JBWeld isn't up to holding it forever. In doing som research, it appears you can TIG weld magnesium. Are the cases pure magnesium, or some kind of alloy? Anyone ever done it and/or know what kind of rod/wire you'd need?

I tried welding 263 rear case but due to the impurities in case material the case would still leak. Ended up getting new rear case along with anti-rub thru kit from Merchant {Site Vendor].

I applied the JB Weld to the area, and filled the webs in up to the edge, and it has been completely dry ever since.

I know of a couple people who welded the cases, but the JB Weld applied heavily will work, at least in my case it did.

A friend of mine welded his, and said he dipped the TIG Tip in the puddle, and welded that way, and it is a Mag Alloy, it is printed on the case.

wouldnt that melt the tungsten tip though. Still prolly cheaper than a case though.

I am no pro welder, but my friend is, he is a welder/machinist on Aircraft, and I have seen him work miracles with something anyone else would have just thrown in the recycle bin, so with his 25+ years he knows his stuff. I do not know if it will melt the tip, but I believe a tip made to weld steel, will melt mag alloy easily, without the tip melting.

Yeah that make since, mag alloy probably has a lower flash point then steel. I'm a welder at steel king, we make candelevers and industrial containers, but by no means am I a pro
