Hey I will be pulling for the first time next monday night at the Lawrence county fair. I have loaded a big tune, so the trans can relearn. I should have sleeves here tomorrow, gonna build blocks for the rear, strap the center link, and if time allows, build weight bracket and traction bars. Also will be lowering the torsion bars down also. I have been talking to couple of my buddies here that are veteran pullers. I think I have all my bases covered. I am gonna have the wife video it for me, and I will be logging as well.:)

Clamp the rear springs to if you don't do traction bars or do both. Both would be the best way. Good luck.

I still havent seen the sleeves yet :( I think I may go to the hassle of making weight brackets and traction bars as well as rear blocks. If the sleeves don't make it in time, so I may have to fab up some "redneck sleeves".

I wouldnt run blocks without bars, unless its a soft track. Too much tendancy to bounce.

Now as for the tranny relearn. I made a seperate tune for pulling, shift points are bumped up a little, shifts times are increased a little (to prevent jerking) and TAPs is turned off so there is no need to run around with my pulling tune in.

Sounds like youve got everything covered, except the hitch. What are you going to use/build??

If you plan on pulling often, dont forget to do the safety mods too such as hoops, bump stops and a kill switch. These not only protect fans and officials but also really protect your truck more than anything.

ok so no bars means no blocks. I still havent seen the sleeves yet, however a buddy of mine just happen to have Cognito tie rods that he hasnt had time to put in, so I have those now. Wow those things are huge compared to the factory rods. I may be posting with more questions later. Gonna go get start fabbin.

Ok got the weight bracket made, bars, and blocks today. Will get pics up tomorrow sometime.

sounds like you should be set. Just strap the centerlink. And if you really plan on putting some power down and the track is hard, I would maybe take some time to make a driveshaft loop, chain or strap. Just something to keep it from flying aprt and damaging the rest of your truck.

dansdieselp

Can you run blocks with the springs clamped and no bars?

Yah I suppose so.

Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has ever just shown up to an event like this with a mostly stock truck and was allowed to participate? My 2005, 6.6L diesel, 4x4, crew cab, with really only Predator programmer and blocker plate for mods.
This is something I’ve always wanted to try and it sounds like a lot of fun. I guess one of those things you cross the bucket list so to speak. Am I crazy or just a guy about to get the bug? Please advise…

What we are talking about is stock truck brush pulls. So the class is designed for trucks like yours we're just the a holes that bend the rules and take the prizes. Well I never have but other people do.

You can show up, pay the entry fee and hook to the sled.

At a minimum you need a big clevis.

You should lower your torsion bars if you could. But if you only plan on pulling once and dont wanna mess with it you could take the chance. With just a predator i dont think theyd break.

But realize that only once, can turn into a true addiction. Props to you if you can be the bigger man. I lost the battle.

Well, this is my daily driver and I got the truck for towing my families 5th wheel with my Jeep behind that. It goes down the road with 12,500lbs no problem and is kind of set up for road towing right now. Just thougth it would be fun to try. One more check in the box of my "Bucket List". :bounce:

Any suggestions on what program to run on the Predator? "Extreme Performance" setting adds 100HP and 220-ft/lb TQ. That might be a bit much... The regular "Preformance" setting is 85HP and 195-ft/lb TQ. That may be a litte better. DiabloSport recommends these tunes not be used for towing. Any thoughts or am I destin to blow something up? LOL

Durallymax
07-27-2008, 07:25 PM
Extreme. You wont blow anything up. well anything serious. Again there is always that small chance of a tie rod breaking.

If all you wanna do is give it a try. i would say dont put much time into it. If I were you I would get/borrow a clevis and hook to the sled, then go enjoy the rest of my night, and like you say cross it off your bucket list.

Im gonnna go out on a limb and give you the award for the best set up truck for a first pull.

I dont think Ive ever seen a truck set up with bars blocks and a weight bracket for the first pull. Your truck looks like a seasoned puller in the pics.

Nice job.

All of mine start out as HD videos on my HD Camera, not sure what type of file that is. All I know is its 1080i High Definition and I really have to compress it to host it anywhere.

What I have to do with iMovie is compress it to a quicktime file and then I upload it to youtube.

Id see if you can just upload the file striaght to youtube or photobucket.

Alright, I will have to give that shot. When ever we have recorded with the digital camera, and put the card in the computer, it always ends up being Quicktime file, but the camcorder is being more difficult. Oh well I will mess with it tomorrow.

Oh your just using a digital snapshot camera dealio.

If its a quicktime file you should be able to just host it on youtube or photobucket.

If you want you can email it to me and i can host it on my you tube account.

PM me if you want to.

I'm guessing the ford that beat you was Jim Legg, the silver one in your pictures. Who was driving the dodge? I'm wondering if it was one of the guys from around marshall. Congrats on your good first hook. I plan to make mine next summer at marshall.

It's the only thing I know of that gives the same butterflies as playing football. Thank God I don't have to do 2 a days to get ready to pull!

ILduramax,
The silver dodge was my old truck, his name is Joe Hill. He and my brother (an 02 GMC) tied for first. Jim Legg was 3rd with the Ford. I was 4th in my 03 GMC and Riley was right behind me. It was a really good street driven pull. All the trucks drove in and only one had problems.

Id beg to differ on the 2 a days gettin ready for a pull. I know every week I spend a lot of time working on the truck. And with my schedule finding time means many late nights.

I always trailer my truck to pulls simply because I have the access to a trailer and extra truck. The reasn I do it is so that I can set my truck up at home and if anything breaks, its no big deal. My truck could drive to every pull I just choose not to.

That would be great andy, my mom recorded one too, but hasnt got it sent yet. Durallymax, my wife recorded it with our DVD camcorder, but it is a new disc, and we haven't finalized it yet, as not to waste it. I will try with her computer later, because she has it on hers now.

im sure you figured this out but to paste you tube vids here, click play video on youtube so that you can watch it on the same page the rest of the world can see, then just copy the web adress and paste it here.

a little quicker on the throttle will help on some tracks but on hard tracks you wouldve been perfect.
