Can someone tell me if a 2004.5 LLY sold in California will have any different types of emissions equipment than a truck sold in the rest of the states?

I don't think it has different equipment, but it has different programming. If I ever get around to putting an EGR blocker plate in, I'll have to put in a Fingers stick, or it will throw codes. I think they all have cats, but if I remove the cat, I think the lack of back pressure will also throw codes. That's all that comes to mind, but I'm sure others will hop in on this one.

the only difference on a ca emissions truck is that it has a cat and a different glow plug controller not sure about it throwing codes if you reovw the cat though.

Thanks guys. I am looking at a truck but it is in California, and I dont want to deal with all the emissions bullshit. I am OK with a CAT, but different programming and stuff scares me. Especially if I have to get it worked on here in Texas.

Do yall know of some documentation somewhere about eh Duramax that I can read to find out EXACTLY what the difference is?

if you can get ahold of the july issue of diesel power mag it shows all about the duramax electronics from lb7 to lmm or try their website www.dieselpowermag.com the article may be there

I got a cali emissions lly here in an emissions strict county of texas and I rerouted pcv, ditched the cat, blocked the egr and blocked the codes w/ the fingerstick.

No problems w. inspection and runs great. Had to replace the glow plug control module @ 47k but it was covered under the emissions waranty 100% = no deductable and is a typ. issue w/ my year lly.

I've got a YF5 cali truck that I bought new from a dealer here in east Texas. I've put a FS on and then blocked the EGR and dropped that CAT with no problems. If it's a good deal, I'd say go for it.
