We have a 560 with a D282 engine, have trouble getting enough oil up to the valves; we have 25# pressure at 1000 rpm. One exhaust valve hangs up and bends the push rod; the head was recently rebuilt by a machine shop. Talked with a mechanic with 50 yrs. experience and he's never heard of it happening!!! Happened more than once with this tractor recently.
Would appreciate any ideas!!!

I work at a Case IH dealer as a Tech, along with the family farm that is all read, including 2 560 Diesels and have never heard of this problem either. I dont think that oil pressure is your problem, although I could be wrong. When you had your head redone did you have all new valves put in or just have the old valves ground? Just curious, where are you from in ND?

Darin, thanks for replying on this really weird problem with the 560! Yes, had new valve seats and springs put in. The mechanic I have hired is experienced, has private business on farm, excellent guy.
Maybe I'll just have to put it in a museum!
As the crow flies live not too far from the Canadian border, about 14 miles.

Darrell, I know a guy who bought a brand new chrystler with a hemi in it, it had trouble getting oil to the valves after it started. He said the valves were knocking realy bad for about the fist 3 min. He took it back to the dealer and they said all these hemis do that. He said he tried every oil he could find and any additives and he said royal purple motor oil fixed the problem. Ive heard that stuff works great.

Michael, thanks for reply. I'll tell my mechanic that, because we are searching and searching for an answer!

When the heads were done, were new guides put in also? Perhaps the tolerance on the guide is too much which causes it to bind? Or perhaps the valve isn't quite true and it binds in the valve guide?

I wouldn't suspect the oil pressure. I would suspect something mechanical. Maybe the guide is worn a little bit which causes the valve to shift and then bind?

I would do a new valve, new guide, and true up the seat. Assemble and rotate manually and watch the valve movement. Make sure that perhaps the pushrod isn't shifting which causes an uneven pressure on it.

I was suspecting that same thing, I dont think oil pressure is your problem, sounds more mechanical than anything else. Like Rockman said, pull the head off, which you obviously have been doing, I would replace that valve, guide, and get the seat in good shape and see what happens. Get someone there with you and leave the valve cover off and watch that particular valve and see if you can notice anything.

If hes not getting the oil up there that could cause the mechanical problems.

Hey, guys! Thanks for all the input! I'll tell Dayton this. It's great to have a forum like this! Glad I found it!
Been making hay for most of the day - finally going good!
