Am I able to pull the egr plug and not worry about getting a blocker plate for my lly. I have pulled my egr plug about 7,000 miles ago and have yet to get a blocker plate. Now with almost 15,000 miles on it, Im wonderin if I should get the blocker plate. The truck runs great.

i woulod get it with the finger stick. this way the hidden codes aren't there anymore and you cna bring it in without a worry.

so the only reason you would get the finger sticks is so the dealer doesn't know. Does the blocker plate stop even more soot from getting into my engine or does just unplugging it do everything.

the blocker plate will stop the soot from going back through the EGR valve into your engine for a second burn of it. yes the finger stick will make sure the dealer doesn't see codes from an aftermarket air intake, blocker plate and free flowing exhaust. the blocker plate i would get is from kroutman as when it is installed you won't notice it unless you know what you are looking for. there is another blocker plate out there that has a ring in the top so you can pull it out. but the ring is noticeable to anyone that it doesn't belong. Plus if the dealer is working on your truck and sees the egr unplugged, they would plug it back in or even worse, order you a new one for the codes sitting in their without even looking into it.

so what did I achieve by just unplugging my egr plug. Thanks for all your info.

Also where exactly does the blocker plate go. I have read up on some of the egr threads but was a little lost on where to install the blocker plate.

If you unplug the EGR valve when it is closed it is the same as a blocker plate. No exhaust recirculation. The blocker plate allows you to keep the EGR plugged in and a finger stick fools the ECM into thinking that the EGR is functioning properly. Therefore no codes are set. If you unplug the EGR you will set codes and depending on what emissions system you have you might get the CEL.

This is one thread that gives a diagram of the EGR circuit. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12054&highlight=egr

Another thread with good info is

I'm attaching a picture which I copied from a post that JJ's Dumax posted a while back. I circled the part where the blocker plate goes. The arrows are for something else.

It's on the upper passenger side of the engine close to the firewall.

I hope this helps.
