: Studder, studder, REV, QUIT...

:help:OK, so today driving the 60-some miles from the cabin back home my truck quit twice. I had the Edge on level 1 and was minding my business. It was raining pretty hard, then the rain quit, then rain again, so I had the wipers on and off for the whole drive.

Anyhow, when the truck did this, the tach jumped violently up and down between like 0 and 4500 rpm for a couple seconds while the engine studdered terribly, then sounded like it was revving, then it quit. I pulled over and waited about 30 seconds or so then cranked it to see what would happen...Started right up. Then, an hour or so later, it did it again!!
Now, this happened ONCE before today. Clear, nice day, sitting at a stop light a couple months ago and it quit...I just thought maybe I slipped my foot off the clutch by mistake??? Or maybe that it was my dirty fuel filter? So I changed the filter after that...but now it did it again, and I don't know what could be causing it.

I read some time back about an Edge-based engine SHUT DOWN that it could be the wipers sending a strange signal through the computer or something?? IDK...but it's bugging me now. I quick flipped the wipers on today also after it already quit twice and the truck did a mini studder right when the wipers actuated.

I don't know what it could be, but I figured I'd turn to you guys before I give the stealership 500 bucks just to watch them pick their nose and say "We don't know what it is."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
-Rick

See if there is any fuel pressure regulator type codes...provided that all the basics are covered.

Would that throw a check engine light? I have not once gotten a check engine code in the year-and-a-half that I have owned the truck.

Yank the edge. It's been reported here that some units flake out in the rain.

It may..or have a pending code. You could check all the parameters with a more in depth scan tool as well.

I will try that. If nothing comes up, then I am gonna sell the Juice w/Attiude.
Thanks!!

Or you could keep the edge and move to a very dry climate! :):D

Hahaha...good call too!!! OR...What I did lastnight was unplug the Juice until the weather cleared up. That is also good cause the truck is DANGEROUSLY squirrely when I get on it and the roads are wet. I almost lost it one day shifting into 4th gear going like 30mph...That was pretty sweet though.:D

I live on Vancouver Island and its one of the wettest climates in Canada. Everything from rain forest to snow capped mountain peaks within a 100km radius depending where you are. I've had my edge on shortly after I bought my truck and knocking on wood I have had no problems with it. Add to that, I bought it second hand new. Maybe the fact that it was previously enjoyed, the last guy may have worked all the bugs out of it for me to.

like said before, its the edge. if you want to keep it, edge will reflash it for you for fre, just pay shipping to them. if not, sell it after the reflash. i know i wouldnt want to buy something like that, and have it do that to me as soon as i got it. i think it cost me $20 after insurance to send it to them.

I also bought my unit used from a buddy of mine. I even asked him before I bought it if he ever had any shut-downs in the rain or any other problems and he said no...except for limping out the tranny a couple of times. ;) Luckily I don't have to worry about that part with my ZF6! :D
