: Hard water run down side of door
chevy2tuff2006 07-19-2008, 06:01 PM Anyone else have this problem of water coming out of the side mirrors and running down the side of your doors after you wash it. How do you remove the hard water runs down the door under the side mirrors? I have tried wax, quick detail, scratch remover, nothing works. Please help I have a white truck and it shows up pretty good especially when you have colored soaps or waxes for auto cash washes.
ChevyShortBox 07-19-2008, 09:15 PM If I wash my truck around here I get these marks all the time, I also get them bad where it runs down at the end of the side molding. I always find hand washing gets rid of them no problem, sometimes it takes a bit more effort though...
To prevent hard water marks I usually try to wash my truck somewhere with better water!
Nathan Muthler 07-19-2008, 09:38 PM Try some eagle wadding polish, it used to get marks on my dually that was white it took them right off. It comes in a little silver can,its for wheels but worked great for me. Takes all the wax off though.
pc_renaud 07-19-2008, 10:00 PM Have this problem all the time so i take out the air compressor hose and blow the water out of the mirrors then dry, a real pia. As for the stain try miguires scratch and swirl remover , works pretty good.
johndeerrm 07-20-2008, 04:56 AM Wash the area with dish soap first to strip the wax then rub it with vinegar, the acid will dissolve the minerals that make up the water mark.
You will need to re-wax any areas that you got dish soap on.

Leaf blower does the job too.
aka108 07-20-2008, 10:12 AM Vinegar, takes the hard water stuff out of coffee makes, should remove hard water residue off your door.
FireTech 07-20-2008, 10:20 AM Use a 1 to 4, vinegar / water mix when hand washing with car wash soap and a aircompressor with blow nozzle to help you dry the cracks and crevices when finished. Dish washing detergent will strip wax from the finish.
copter 07-20-2008, 10:47 AM If they are surface spots, a clay bar will take care of it. If they have embedded into the base then some light sanding with 2000 grit then slowly bring the shine back with polish.
A wealth of info can be found---> http://www.meguiarsonline.com/
i use mothers from walmart, have it in a red label and a green label, either will work,or vinager and baking soda, mix into paste, rub with cotton balls, never tried plain vinager by itself

Exactly. That's the only way I dry my truck after I wash it. I am also fortunate enough to have a Stihl backpack blower too. I never have water drip out of any crevice after I wash.
QwkTrip 07-20-2008, 01:20 PM When I hand wash and dry then the spots can't be seen any longer. I wash and dry a panel at a time to minimize water spots forming. I'm sure the water deposits are still there but I can't see them. :) Hard water spots happen. I can't imagine going through tons of effort to keep a perfect shine unless it was a show car.
I do not recommend using an air compressor. They can blow oil on the paint which is worse than the water spots. I just wrap a towel around the mirrors after I dry. Then take it for a short drive to vibrate water from stubborn places. Wipe clean and done! :thumb:

Wow! It must take you 4 hours to wash your truck.
QwkTrip 07-20-2008, 11:02 PM It can take a while. That's why I usually go to the coin wash. :D
alvareracing 07-22-2008, 01:14 PM I guess I'm not the only one with this problem, but so far no major stain but I do have to come back and wipe it off with a detailer or a show-n-shine type spray. I guess I have to start blowing it too! That didn't sound right:eek:
Leaf blower does the job too.
Sometimes I use my blower off the Sears garage vacumm. Also, you could use a Mr. Clean car wash with the water cartridge filter to put clean, filtered rinse water on to get the soap off...
