Hey guys...

Got a 96' 6.5 3500...my lawn crew came in and said it will go for about 400 or so feet and stall out...I drove it and as soon as it starts loosing power the volt meter starts bouncing down, then up then all the way down (left)....I first thought when they came in it was a PMD but hesitant to say that now with the voltage needle going wacky....It will then crank for an extended period and after 10-15 seconds it will run again, almost like its searching for fuel to burn? maybe not though? :D

Im thinking its a grounding issue so im going out this morning to check it out and see if I can figure it ou...

Do you guys think im on the right track with a ground or could it still be my PMD...still mounted on top with no extension...thats my next thing on the list!

Any probable locations on the 6.5s or basically check every ground? :D

thanks guys, much appreciated

Check all the battery cables.
These can corrode in the red side terminal jackets where the cable is crimped.
The eyes of the ground cables at the engine can also go bad internally too.

Be sure to check the power feed cable from the LH + cable to the junction box.

A VOM should show 14- 14.5 at both batteries when the rig is running.

Poor voltage or connections will drive these things nuts.

Is the Tach going wacky also?

Tach is fine...

....checked all terminials, cleaned them all, including the grounded block bolt. Put em back on and the guages seemed fine....let it run for a bit and everything was good...

...took it down the road got it to 30 and she bogged out, threw 4 codes...

cant remember exactly but 2 charger codes and a injection pump code and...? forgot.

Im kinda second thinking PMD issue...it will restart and then die out, only thing though, I let it cool down for a LONG time and it just wouldnt start at all! Then 5 minutes later, it idles perfectly...?What the heck....Merchants checking it out for me...other idea is the injection pump, almost seems like its starving for fuel! Takes the pedal to get it going and she will stall out like a bad PMD

Copy the Diagnostic Checklist in my signature into a new post and fill it out. Do all the tests.

You can find more information on grounds in the Alphabetical section of the FAQ under grounds... there are lots of them, and they can all cause you grief.

Fuel issues are covered in the checklist and FAQ.

If there are tests you don't know how to do (from the checklist) ask and somebody will help you. It's been our experience that careful, systematic attention to details saves a lot of time and aggravation in the long run. Saves $$, too... just throwing parts at these trucks is an expensive way to fix simple problems.

Oh, by the way, please fill out your signature so we can see what the details are on your truck... is it an F or S? Have you done any mods? Stuff like that...
