hi guys- the wife was driving the suburban and it stalled in the middle of a main road - wouldn't start for her after many tries - i was working clear across town and she was stranded and upset - the cops were able to push the car down the road and into a shopping center. when i got there vehicle won't start- i notice i can't hear the lift pump when i turn the key like normal - open the petcock - no fuel coming out - remove fuel filter and barely any fuel in the housing. i pulled the fuel sol fuse and opened top of fuel filter - no fuel comes out when cranking. - drive back to the house in my other car - get the old lift pump in the shed- drive back- install it - get soaked with diesel in the process. finally - fuel comes out the petcock and top of fuel filter when cranking - and yes she starts again. - heath heavy duty lift pump approx 2 years old and barely 20k on it and it gave up the ghost - anyone else have this problem ? glad i wasn't on my vacation yet - am planning a trip to Idaho pulling the trailor next week - it's a 5 hour+ trip. i definately will have a spare lift pump on board.

I installed the NAPA high pressure lift pump when mine went out and it seemed to have the same pressure and volume readings as the Heath. Also cost less than the Heath last I checked, but that was a few years ago.

This is another reason why I believe the most important gauge you can have is fuel pressure.

was there a warranty on the heath LP? bill heath is a good guy and i'm sure if its still under warranty(if its got one) he'll ship you out another one. when my first HP4 computer was crushed by UPS he shipped a second one out with the UPS 3 day select shipping upgrade at no charge to me.

Before I started putting relays on my lift pump wiring, I had alot of OPS and LP failure sometimes they'd only last six months to a year or so. Since the relays I'd say longevity has went up atleast 400% only replaced one LP in three years out of three trucks.
As mentioned a fuel gauge is pretty handy also, I have one on my 93, I can tell when I need to change the filter enstead of changing to often or not often enough.

I would either purchase or build the fix that kennedy sales for this problem, it can be found here (http://www.kennedydiesel.com/). I was told their was a step by step guide on how to build something similar to what kennedy sales on here, but have not found it yet. If you are going on vacation I would purchase a new LP and OPS and take them with you on your trip. Better to be safe than broke down with a pissed of wife on the side of the road.(been their done that) Like dave stated above I would call and atleast talk to heath, He may try and help you out.
Wish you luck!

My Heath LP failed after about 4 months and 15,000km/9,000m, but that still isn't much. Just sent it back to him and we'll wait to see what he says. I didn't find much crud in my filter or housing so who knows. He says the only thing that should take out his pump is crud making it past the clogged tank sock and thru the check valve into the LP.
