I'm sorry to say that I don't have much faith in my duramax.the last vacation I was loaded up to go across the state with the family and the truck broke down 15 miles out of town (actually it was a blessing it happened there) fuel injectors bad. Now I'm getting ready to take the family to orange beach alabama from michigan and I don't have alot of faith in the Duramax I've got about 30,000 miles on these injectors and it runs good but it's sad to say I feel like it's a time bomb waiting to leave me stranded. What ticks me off is I've always bought G.M.products and I wish I knew if the replacement injectors were a updated part or the same junk. I've got 91,000 miles on it and plan on doing the u-joints and the serpintine belt before the trip and fuel filter and oil. It's just a shame that in the back of my mind I'm wondering if I should take the Wifes car.Anybody else out there feel the same way.

Vehicles all have problems bud, my injectors went out at 11,000 miles. Now I'm at 36,000 and barely have owned it for a year and she's running strong. Just go have fun!!! You have to realize that vehicle breakdown and stuff isn't the end of the world.

Drive it like you stole it, and enjoy it while it lasts... $hit happens.. just roll with it.. Even the best plan goes to heck when you get boots on the ground.

I know how you feel! It's not you! You shouldn't have to feel that way! I've got a 2002 Duramax and have had five minor repairs in 45k miles! Now, I just ignore the check engine light! It comes on and then goes off constantly! Any and every trip to the dealer is a minimum of $350. The fuel vent hoses from the fuel filler area literally fell off and drug behind the truck on my first trip out! I like the general design of the truck and I bought it because it had a Japanese engine and an Allison trans. I've also owned a few Dodge Cummins and frankly with both Dodge and GM the quality control doesn't impress me! (Haven't own a Ford in a while) If Toyota had a diesel I'd try it! I've had one repair on my 2001 Toyota Tundra! It's interesting how Americans have become so accepting of low quality and excuses from our leaders! I bought one of the highest rated travel trailers brand new and spent a week repairing factory sloppy construction! I'm retired now so maybe someone can explain to me why travel/truck stops in Germany have better food than our "better" restaurants in the U.S! Why tomatoes in super markets have no flavor, and why all the "so called problems" in our schools don't affect Chinese immigrant children on their way to UCLA and Stanford to become doctors! These are rhetorical questions, we all know the answers if we'd only be honest!

Are you guys seriously satisfied to lay down all that money for a truck that has such serious reliability issues?
enjoy it while it lasts... $hit happens.. just roll with it..Is that really what a guy should tell him self when his "NEW" truck breaks down that frequently?

All vehicles have issues (yes Toyotas too). My wife's Toyota Tacoma has not been able to hold a fron end alignment since it was new, it gets terrible gas mileage, and has had 2 recalls (one for bodyside molding that kept falling off, and another for the fuel filler tube). Why don't we hear about that stuff? Now how bad those issues are and how both the dealer and the owner are able to deal with those issues are what make a quality of both product and service. I have had 3 GMC trucks now. All of them have had some type of issue (one was a tranny, one was a water pump, and one was a seat issue). But I was able to deal with all of those things with the service manager and resolve them equitably for both of us. Compreesor59, because your truck had one failure(albeit a major repair) is not a reason to lose faith in it. It has been repaired and is running good. Just enjoy. Life is too short to let the little stuff get you. Good luck on your vacation! Have a great time!

Bill

P.S.
I have about 12600 miles on my truck now. About 3500 miles of that is towing. I have not had any major issue with this truck yet, But I am sure that day will come. I will deal with it when it does.

I have 48K on my rig now, and the injectors died last year with about 36K on the rig. I have had no other issues other than a weatherstrip that fell off, and the tailgate straps. I am fairly confident that I will get full use out of this truck, and I will not buy from any other manufacturer's.

Ain't that the truth. Wife's 4Runner engine went tits up. Toyota wouldn't replace the engine. They put a short block in it.

Redapple I know anything mechanical can have its problems. It sure would be nice to know if the injector quality control/design issue has been corrected everything else about the truck is fine. When you get left walking it is always in the back of your mind.I've got about 25,000 miles on this set of injectors so I'm hoping the issue has been corrected.

In all honesty and due respect, I really have more **** to think about than wether my truck is going to break down or not. My dodge dakota gasser grenaded its transmission, my white truck eats (insert truck part here) on a semi-regular basis, and my diesel had a bad injector. Now, it runs like a freakin champ.

I'm more worried about making sure my little steeley eyed killers are properly trained for combat than wether my trucks going to last.

Sometimes you have to focus on the 50 meter target instead of the 300 meter target.

Frankly I'm surprised some of you even leave the house. I'd consider a visit to a Psychiatrist to help releive some of that stress before something bad happens.

73,000 mile on my truck and had the injectors replaced about 20k ago and have no other GM related problems with the truck, I'm also running a big program, Nitrous, tow, drag and truck pull and everthing is still working just fine.

Michael Tomac has had similar results with even faster times and longer pulls with over 100k on his truck. Don't worry, be happy!!!

Read some more forums where the majority of posts come from a negative. Oh, and make sure you change your truck's diaper before you leave.

If your paying $350 everytime the truck goes to the stealer and it's for something on the motor, you should change dealers. This one is taking you for a ride. Now, you may have had a few more problems than others, but ask around and I think you'll find most owners are pleased with their purchase. As far as americans accepting low quality, I don't believe that IMO. Excuses from our leaders, If you voted for the other guy, then you have a right to  . If you voted for this one, better yell in a mirror. If you didn't vote at all, sit down, shut up and wait until the next election!!!!!!!!

Compressor59,
Give it a chance, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. That's not to say something won't happen, but as others have said, life is to short, so enjoy the ride.

You're going to worry your truck to death. Drive it and be happy. Just had mine replaced and I haven't looked back. Just think of all the other stuff that could go wrong...and not with your truck.

Compressor, Just drive it !! No injector probs., on mine till over 200k & it is used as a transporter all the time pulling trailers ao all sizes in all conditions. I doubt you will hit that mileage soon. Yes I finally replaced the motor at 282,000 & the tranny at 419,000. For your use you should be fine . Relax & enjoy the vacation.
