: Riding on "The Gov"
toytruckman 07-17-2008, 05:18 PM Will it hurt anything to ride for a little while (30sec. to 1min.) on the speed limiter? Mine is still set at ~95.
The ECM should turn the fuel back? Yes? EGT should go down?
Field Tech 07-17-2008, 07:42 PM Only your back pocket, if local law enforcement sees you. It's a little surprising when you pull out to pass a semi and just as your about to pull back in the motor goes flat. I thought I broke something the first time, until I realized how fast I was going and it was the computor dialing back the fuel.
saratoga 07-17-2008, 08:12 PM It'll run there all day long until you either run out of fuel or get caught.
when driving back from the states in my old truck I could hit 98 on the flats but if you hit a nice downhill and time it right 100 is possible. You know you're bored when you're playing games with the gps.......lol
olboy82 07-18-2008, 02:21 PM Some how I managed to get mine up to 132 on the gps but it wasn't but for a second I didn't want the tires to blow

Wow, I bet that'd be scary in a truck.

Yup thats what was it, trying to pass a bunch of big rigs on the old two lane blacktop:D
I'm going to plug the Predator back in and move that up a little
ColbyColorado04 07-18-2008, 06:20 PM I have had mine up to just under 140 (verified by the 350z that was next to me) before we both let off. Taking an 8klbs truck to that speed isnt something im gonna do again.

wow, you did that with 285 tires? thats great! HOW WAS YOUR STOPING POWER? DID SHE WONDER A BIT AT 140, I RACE BEFORE AND THE OWNER OF THE INFINITY GS30 SAID WE HIT OVER 140 BUT I THOUGHT HE WAS JOKING,CAUSE I COULDN'T READ OR LOOK AT THE ODOMETER, I COULD NOT KEEP MY EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR A MILLI SECOND, THE ROAD AND EVERYTHING ON THE SIDE MOVES TOO FAST AND TRUCK STARTED TO WONDER.
ColbyColorado04 07-18-2008, 10:34 PM It actually was very very stable but its something im not gonna try or even do again. i still have put it past 120 on a couple times but thats just usually quick bursts not holding. The whole 140ish was from about a 50 roll on up. It was my cousins 350 with some slight mods done. I took him easy until about the 120ish mark when he started pullin back. And he said he was just over 140 and was slowly creepin past my rear bumper when we let out of it. Very long straight section of flat road that is seperated from the north bound side quite a bit. Something that makes you think after... WOW that was really really stupid. The slightest glitch at that speed in an 8k truck would have been disasterous not only for me but possibly him.
contedmax 07-27-2008, 03:06 AM i have on 01 z06 and i think my truck is more stable and easier to drive at 125 than the car is!
pdieckhaus 07-28-2008, 10:27 PM One of my co-workers got a call from her daughter that she had just flipped her car over3 times. I made a 30 minute normal drive down to about 12 minutes, about 6 of those were all city roads/ stoplights, etc. The rest once outside city limits I ran it until the governor slowed me. Truck to this day is running fine, actually I think the "cleaning out" did some good.
BTW-daughter after about 3 weeks is fine, crawled out back window, many bruises but darn lucky.

159 :ro)
Narcah 07-28-2008, 11:57 PM Isn't weight actually helpful at high speeds? Other than, of course, the stopping power needed to slow it all down again.

Momentum is the product of mass and velocity. If the road was absolutely perfect, and you could keep the truck perfectly straight, you could argue that it would be helpful. With bumps in the road, sidewall flex, wind, driver inputs, etc. all acting on the truck, your momentum can change direction quickly. A small direction change at high speeds may be all it takes to be out of control.
Your 7k# truck has the same amount of momentum at 120 mph as a 1287# F1 car at 652 mph!!!
