Guys I've looked at doing that for a while. But on my 2000 it appears that if I remove the fender snorkel then engine will be huffing air from engine bay. How did you guys get air box the snug up to fender? I end up with about 5.--1.5in gap between fender and air box without fender snorkel.

GM stopped using the "fender snorkel" in 1996. I think what you are looking at is the air tube that brings air in from forward of the radiator behind the grill. This tube is much larger than the old fender snorkel, the opening was only about 1 1/2 in.

AH so removal of this air piece is not necessary correct?
