What an awesome website!

Well, I finally bit the bullet and picked up my first Diesel truck 3 days ago. It is a 3500 DRW Duramax/Allison Crew cab. The dam* thing cost more than my first house!

My question is: If you all had to do it over again, what mods would you do and what would'nt you do? What should be my first mod? I want a more "throaty" sound but not too loud and I want to hear the turbo whine. What mods would accomplish this? Should I wait until I get a few miles on it (it has 300 now)?

Thanks in advance for your advice. :D

BTW, I am a sand-duner with a 40 foot fifth-wheel toy-hauler and quads and a rail to put in it.

Well, I too have the same questions as BITERMAN. Ijust bought a 2005 Silverado 2500hd Crew Cab Long bed duramax/allison 4 days ago, The truck stock is BAD A$$!!!, I traded a 2003 2500hd gas motor. Any info on the mods or regrets on mods made, please advise. Biterman, I'm your neighbor in Victorville.

:rockit: Do nothing until you have saved money for a Suncoast. Then you can add all the power you want. That would be the best thing to do. But...........sometimes you just can not hold back and want more POWER. Go with a small tuner first. then the exhaust and gauges, a bigger tuner, then the next level Suncoast. Then more power ect.......................:ro)

Well Good Luck with the trucks.
First thing I did was the AFE Stage II, Then I did the Banks exhaust, then the Banks Six-gun w/speed loader. Happy with all the mods, I need to get the updated flash from what people on this site have told me. (Truck is Loping) After that all should be perfect. Lots of power, I have yet to take it to the dealer to see what they say about the mods, it will be kinda hard to hide the Pillar Gauges.:grd:

:cool2: Well if you ever get stuck in the river I am the big house on the north corner of Yucca Loma and the river.

I love this truck but after reading about the EGR, I would like to get that taken care of ASAP. Soot in the intake? I have a sand rail with a LS6 twin turbo in it and I would have a SH&T FIT if I even FELT grime on the inside of my intake!!!! How does this happen? Blow back from back pressure?

What does disconnecting the EGR do as opposed to blocking it off and how easy is it to block and install a stick ( i think that's what you guys called it...)

As to how it happens, soot from the exhaust is recycled into the intake via the EGR valve. This is done to lower NOx emissions.
If you use bio-diesel the soot content is greatly reduced, and the intake stays cleaner.

stick and plate combo is very very easy to install. having the egr blocked off with the plate really ensures that its blocked, unplugging the egr mya do it but is not a failsafe. id leave the egr in but block it off with the plate.

Is there a kit to do this? Or is it a DIY job?

Hey rookies......We welcome all of you to the Place.

First off, for the EGR blockoffs, do a search for "EGR plates"....theres a boatload of info. Someone was doing CNC ones that were really nice....simple install too IIRC.

Also, Fingers was designing a circuit to block EGR codes from being set, if you search "fingerstick" you will find it. There may be info about the plates there, too.

Biterman, thewad1 (BTW good name)...... Exhaust, intake upgrades are the norm. After that, either a programmer (Bully Dog or Predator) or harness-type setup (Edge or VA) is the way to go.

The advice to upgrade the trans is a good one...its not that the Allison can't take it, you can run about +90HP with a box and it'll survive ok. But in all seriousness, most of us have found that in the quest for power you just can't stop at +90HP! After that, you're looking at Suncoast, ATS, TTS, or DTT for an upgrade.

After that....well, let your imagination run wild.

For more info on any topic...that wonderful "search" function is the cats *ss!!!!

Again, Welcome to the Place!!
