Has anyone had some experience with exhaust brakes ? I tow a large 5th wheel & will be travelling to Colorado in the near future. First of all will it void the warranty ?, Will MPG drop ?, How much would a good system cost installed ?. I hear Banks & Pac Brake are the two most well known but I'm sure there are many others. Thanks.

With EFI live you can tune your turbo vanes to work like an exhaust brake. Just another option, I'm not sure how much the Banks and pac brakes cost.

Just wondering, why not let the trucks RPMs slow you down? Our trucks can handle 4800 rpms to do this service without any damage to the engine at all, and very rarely does it ever even get above 4000 rpms. I tow a 15K lb tripple axle toy hauler and going down a fairly long 7% grade can maintain 60 mph at about 3300 rpm in 3rd gear, I am sure 2nd gear would allow me to maintain much lower speed than that.

Just curious.

I installed a Banks exhaust brake on my 03 model. It works well enough now but I have issues with Bank's policy to the entent that I will never buy from them again. The first brake came and it seems that it was not machined properly so that it stuck closed and thus limped the truck while creating a great deal of black smoke. Banks then required that I pay to ship the unit back and to pay to ship a new one out to me. The same problem manifested itself with the new unit and again Banks made me pay to send the unit back and to reship another unit to me. This time it worked. I do not appreciate having to pay for their manufacturing defects.

I've run a BD brake on the '01, '04 and now the '07. I tow 18K+ coast to coast and wouldn't be without one. No substitute for the peace of mind. I install it with two regulators and solenoid valves so with the flip of a switch I have full brake or about half. Sometimes full braking is too much. I also automatically switch my boost gage to read exhaust back pressure when the brake is engaged. Works slick!
