JAYMAN: It is part of an education process. As you can see, I did all the leg work, and provided the links for him! I did not mean to come across in the wrong manner! I did not know what he was referring to originally, and the main part of the question was in the title of the thread. I did not catch it right away. That's all brother. :) :)

I'll clean my post up for you! ;)

Yes i am very new to the Duramax and just want whats best for the truck. This site is the best. I like the quick responses. My truck runs well and i don't have any problems. However i am interested in improving fuel mileage. I install the K&N system and it picked up a little. Then i stepped up to a 285 tire size and brought it back to normal. The truck has a 22 gallon tank and i get around 385 to a tank..

Thanks again for the help, you guys are awsome help. Please bare with me til i get this thing figured out.. :o:

We had the kn filter in our 8.1 liter and dirt collected in the inlet mouthpiece. On our 05 duramax and with a new filter before driving to Branson and then to arizona for the winter I had the oil changed in feb so from Oct to feb the dirt was on the air filter that looked like it was a plowed field. no dirt on the good side but with the kn I wojuld think it would allow dirt into the engine. chevman

oiled filters no good for our trucks they move to much air and bring the oil over the mass air flow sensor not good stay away from them in my opiion,

ya i think this is right, but the low fuel light just comes on at about 19 or so gallons but i think if you were to drive until it ran slap out it would probably hold 26 gallons. They just gave us some room when we forget to fill up

Assuming you still have the stock air box, take the K&N filter off and sell it to someone you don't like. :D

Then put the stock air box back on, carefully clean the MAF, put in a new AC Delco air filter (best for these engines, BTW), and then get TxC's CAI - it will only work with the stock air box. It's the best $60 you can spend on your truck.

That bought me 1-2 mpg.

Keep in mind any lift kit or larger tires or more aggressive tire tread will only hurt your mileage.

BTW, welcome to the site!
