Hey eyerone out there,
I am looking at buying an 87 GMC 2500 2wd pickup with 40,000 original miles on it. I am a poor college kid looking for something that will get decent gas milage and still get my stuff back and forth (kinda rules out a car for hauling stuff) I am looking at it over the internet and got a few picks from the guy and the body is in perfect condition. His dad used it to pull a 5th wheel camper in the summers and then he kept it in the barn all winter. He traveled with extra injectors, belts, filters, and water pump just in case something happend. My main questions are should I be asking him to check things like the harmonic balancers to see if that is in decent condition since it was not run all year? I have heard some horror stories about those. Any other concerns or questions that you think I should bring up just let me know. I appreciate any advice that you could throw my way.

Thats hardly any miles for a 6.2. Whats he asking for it?

I know that the miles on this 6.2 barely have it broke in. I was just wondering if there was anything else that I should look for since it sat in a barn most of the year. He is asking anywhere between $3100-4800 for the truck from a used vehicle pricing web site that he found. Since I'm in college I don't have alot of money to spare and I was thinking that this truck would get good gas mileage and last a long time for the moeny that I spend on it.

Do you know the guy? Can he verify the mileage? The reason I ask is the older body style trucks only had 6 digits on the odometer one of which is a decimal for 10ths of a mile. My point is there is no room to show hundred thousands. The odo may read 40k but it could very well be 140k,240k. You can guess by the looks of the vehicle otherwise (seats, pedals, uderhood leaks/rust/grime) A truck with only 40k should look the part.

No, I do not know him personally, but I have seen pictures of the truck and it does look the part for 40k. He has maintenace records and receipts showing what he has done to the truck. My main question that I want to get some advice on is what I should be asking him because it sat most of the year in a barn.

I see no problems with storing it in a barn, better than sitting out in the weather.
From what you describe this truck is compared to what your looking for, I say go for it, I think you will be satisfied.
