What's the diff between the plastic and metal intake tube? Some are saying that with the plastic one that they here the turbo sing a lot more. Any truth to this?

Does the AFE for the LLY increase turbo sound under the hood?? I know it makes a big difference on the LB7.

Thanks for answering the question. There won't be a plastic intake tube under my hood. I want to hear that turbo. Thanks.

duramaxdiesel,

If you want one of the metals intake tubes you better call someone like us soon as when they are gone they are gone per AFE anyway!!! We have a few left as of today.

Ive read on here that the AEM Brute Force intake sounds nice. Loud turbo whistle. Metal intake tube. I don't have one, but just incase you can't find the AFE one. I've always ran AEM on my gassers with great results and nice quality. Diesel intake??? I have no experience with it. Might just want to use AFE PG7 with it.

I have a metal tube AFE with a regular cone filter(not the pro gaurd). It sings like crazy but didnt change my track times.

I just put the AFE Stage 2 with metal tube system on my Dmax and to be honest, the turbo sound is barely louder than stock. I was hoping for more of a scream from the turbo, but I guess not.

I just recently added the AFE plastic tube from the GM stock and I definately hear more turbo whine, not too loud, but you know when its pulling!

AFE Stage 2 (metal) is loud. If you can't hear it, the the radio must be cranked. Much louder than K&N FIPK I had. No complaints though I love the sound.

What, if any, difference is there between part #'s 50-10122 and 54-10122??

AFE's website somewhat says they are the same thing, although I see the Stage 2 kit listed with these numbers at different sites and curious as to what the deal is.

I cannot see the provision for the air flow measurement device on the 54-10122

I just installed the AFE Stage 2 plastic intake tube on last night and I have to say it really isn't much louder. I mean yea you can hear it a little bit more with the windows down and at the right throttle position but nothing like you would in a powerstroke.

I have installed the AEM polished brute force. Its a aluminum tube that i havent felt it get really hot, ive checked a few times after driving, but i guess they have some ceramic coating on them, fit and finish was great, good instructions, will install in maybe 30 min with simple tools and a 10mm socket. The noise is better than stock in the interior, not super loud, but last night it was warm enough to drive with the windows down, and you can definately hear a big difference. sounds great. edge j/a came yesterday and the exhaust will be ordered this weekend, cant wait to see the difference then.
