i was pulling my trailer and after i climbed a hill engine started to knock off and on and after a couple of miles knocked constantly. truck idles a little rough and knocks. wondered if anyone had this happen and what is a good place to find a motor.

not sure i guess it could be. got new injectors one year ago and ballance rates were good a month ago.

Sounds like a sticking or blown injector. Any fuel in the oil?

Thats the first thing I'd check.

checked it over more tonite. reved it up a few times knock seemed to fade almost gone.oil pressure still high

I'd say injectors. Was it blowing much smoke?

didnt seem to smoke hardly at all. no smoke at idle. but it has a big tune and smokes when you step on it

So you were towing with the big tune? What were your EGT's going up the hill right before it started to act up?

dont have a pyrometer so i dont know

Towing with a big tune and no pyro = bad idea. Of course, that doesn't help you out any saying that, but I'd check your oil to see if it smells like diesel, or if the level is higher than it was before (injector issues). Does the truck have any power if you try to drive it (turbo damage)? If you have a programmer that can check balance rates and other codes, I'd do that as well. Did you get a check engine light?

Same thing happened to mine and it was injectors. Dont drive it anymore and get em checked. If your out of warranty get ready to dig deep.

truck still has power . no check engine light. knocking is back louder and it started squeeking too. just changed oil and was not overfull and doesent seem to have diesel in it.still dont know whats wrong with it.just have a cheap code reader no codes

my truck has over 240k miles so no warrenty. already on third set injectors

Your sig says you are EFI Live tuned? Do you have the program? If so check your DTC's with that, and run your own balance rate check. If not, whoever did it for you, if they aren't too far away, have them plug in and see what's up with your truck.

Even towing with a big tune and a pyro isn't the best idea. I did it for 20K or so and can't say weather or weather not it took my motor out :rolleyes:.

Check your DTC's and let us know what shows up.

had some mechanical friends stop by and check it out. there is a lot of blow by comming from the oil fill. never had that before.it looks bad but i will get the ecm checked as soon as i can.i had efi done by someone an hour away.

Dont drive it , Its injectors!

if you got blowby, you lost cylinder, check compression.

you are right it looks like a pistons gone. got a used low mile motor,puting it in this week.thanks
