I'm the owner of a '04.5 Dodge Ram 2500's 4x4's SWB Quad cab and I'm looking at buying a new set of meats and want to get the biggest size tires possible on my truck. I've been looking at the BFG Mud Terrain 35x12.50x17's. Will these tires fit w/o any problems or do I need to look at a smaller size?
Thanks for your help!!

Hello David,
My Buddy's are running 35x12.50x17 tires on their new Dodge pickups. The 35" tire requires a leveling kit and the right off set wheel.4 5/8 back spacing should be the right one.Sometimes they will rub the inner fender slightly when backing down a steep driveway with the wheel turned sharp.the rubbing is real minor.I don't recommend puting that big of tire on the stock wheel because of width.315x70x17 will fit also and most makes are 34x11.5-12 wide.I know people running this size on stock wheels and they fit well.I hope this helps.

A leveling kit won't alleviate rubbing, the taller/wider tires will rub on the control arms before they hit the fender. Wheel backspacing is critical. I've got 315/70/17's on H2 wheels on my '04.5 2500, no rubbing, none, under any conditions yet over 13k miles. On-road, off road, towing, empty, at the dunes, on the beach, everywhere, no rubbing.
A co-worker had 315's mounted on stock rims, he installed a leveling kit, but because of the different backspacing his tires rub the control arms in full lock turns. He's pissed, he put on the kit to avoid rubbing, just threw away the money imho. I told him before he did it that the leveling kit is not the solution, correct backspacing is, but some folks just have to learn the hard (and expensive) way.

Does anyone know the biggest tire I can run on a stock suspension and still clear snow chains? I'm thinking it is probably 285's.

315's seem to be the largest. The most popular are the BFG AT/KO. Here is my truck with stock tires and then 315's

Roger600 -- I think tire chains might be covered in the manual. I read somewhere that it's best to stick with the stock size if you're going to use chains.

Thanks, I would like to run 285s or 315s, but I don't want to beat up my breaklines in the wheel wells with the chains.
