Hi Guys,
I have a 1986 K1500 and when i back up, or crank the wheel while I back up, I hear a popping sound coming from one of my hubs. If I drive ahead and continue to back up ( in 4 hi ) it will engage again, unless I crank the wheel too far either way. Are my hubs shot? They are the factory auto locking hubs, and the truck has approx 140, 000 miles on it!!
Thanks in advance
Will

solid front axle, so i guess that would make it a hub
thanks

the autolockers are notorius for gumming up and sticking, you may be able to do wonders with just a good cleaning of everything and some lube.

Thanks

a light grease, I have used a lithium grease before. Not the spray kind though. Something lighter then wheel bearing grease.

Im thinking auto hubs are by now on the way I would yank them out and put in a set of manual hubs by WARN or Mile marker etc New auto hubs are about 220-300ea x2 a complete set of manual hubs are in the 100 range just what you need for your dana 44

Hi,
Thanks for all the info!! I think that is the route I will go!! Just as simple as unbolting one set and adding another?
Thanks

Just follow instructions that come with manual hubs BTW unless WARN has changed their instructions they are a touch vague and the instructions come mangled in the box due to rattling, have done 3 and all 3 instructions have been torn check online at their website good luck

the locking lug in one of your hubs is gone... if you take it apart you'll see the center part rounded, I lube them with 5w-30 engine oil, grease tends to make them stick.
