New guy here, need advice. Strongly considering buying a 2004 2500 4x4 w/93K, crew cab for the $13,5 to $14K price. In this market seems like a good deal. From this forum I've discovered it's an LLY engine and I know how to determine the gear ratio when I see it. Potential problem: The add says all injectors have just been replaced. From this forum I know the warranty on those has been extended and there is a problem. It makes me suspicious especially after reading the stuck injector, blown engine, no warrantee thread posted here. This is a two owner truck, both from simi rural areas, so it probably towed. Question: What, if anything should I be looking for to make sure the injectors were replaced BEFORE some bad things happened? This will be my first Diesel, but my friends 2006 2500 has impressed me to no end. I am a 25 year auto shop teacher so I understand gearhead. Just need some diesel specific advice from you guys who know or have had the experience, before tomorrow if possible. All appreciated. By the way, this vehicle will be used to tow a 32 foot fifth wheel/gooseneck toy hauler with hot rods for shows and possibly a race car for the track. (another 9 sec. car is on my bucket list)

Always get the VIN # and check out the Carfax site on a used vehicle. The injectors themselfs are usually not the issue with LLY's it's the plug connectors that cause the problems. I would take it for a ride, without the owner, and get on it good and hard. Roll into it all the way to WOT, don't just mash it to the floor, to see if the tranny shifts are nice and firm.

Have the VIN, did the carfax and it's clean other than being owned by 2 rural types, maybe towed horse trailers etc., just a guess, don't know. The 8th digit is a 2, that means LLY, correct?
