: PMD shot...Made a new harness and relocated in bumper

Well, my truck had it's FSD mounted on top of my intake for 6 years with no problem at all. A few weeks ago I had a few stalls and today while driving it just went crazy. Lucky I could shut er down before the revs got too high but wow it almost gave me a heart attack!! I fired her back up and a few feet later she went nuts again and she stalled for good.

I bought some wire, made a harness and relocated another PMD in my bumper. That's alot of soldering making a harness.
The truck runs normal again.

I bought a used PMD from a fellow member here MFGGURU. Great guy with lots of knowledge in many areas. He even gave me a warranty. Lets hope I won't ever use it.

Sorry for the long post guys, just figured I'd let you know what my day consisted of. All is good!! ;)

You know I had been scratching my head for weeks on my truck. It would just start to stutter like it was not getting fuel and sometimes die but would always restart. After studying a bit on when I experienced this crap was usually when it was warm and had been sitting a bit. I was convinced it was fuel delivery related but you know, when the injectors do not fire, it sure does not get much fuel either.
I decided the PMD needed moved anyway so I did the same, made a harness, dug the PMD out carefully and cut one screw to get that sucker out knowing it would never go back anyway. Knock on wood, that truck has been two weeks or so without a single hiccup. Before and the last straw was when the truck kept dying in the driveway and I needed to be somewhere. Died like 20 times and acted just like it was running out of fuel because it would mostly idle, just would not take throttle. My theory is I was just not getting the pulse width at throttle or it was intermittent.

Now I think some pump timing should get my cold starting issued clear up and I am good to go for a while.

Thanks to all the guys here because I am sure without the forum, I would still be scratching my head and probably would have a scope hooked to the PMD trying to catch a glitch in the pulse width.

Ya know one thing Viper, after the PMD gets toasted and starts showing signs of weird behavior it cannot be revived by relocating it. The damage has already been done. Best is to start off with a fresh PMD. At least thats what others have said...

Strange coincidence. I relocated my Heath PMD/heat sink to the bumper yesterday. I had to move it to make way for an intercooler. It fit inside the bumper between the two air slots. Should get plenty of airflow there, except when I'm caught in traffic... I don't think the PMD makes as much heat when the engine is idling anyway, so it shouldn't be an issue/

Like Dieseldad said....Once you're PMD is done, it's done. Removing it and relocating it after it's been toasted won't do you any good. I have a used PMD that I tested on my truck and it worked. If you're interested let me know. I'll sell it to you for a very good price and I'll guarentee it's not DOA and give you a 2 month warranty just like the used ones on ebay.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks but I am going to roll the truck till it quits. I have another truck so not too worried about it. Knock on wood, truck runs good now and I am not convinced the ground loop or harness wasn't giving me a problem before. The truck is a totally different animal now.

After my OE PMD that I put on a KD-supplied heat sink behind left battery quit after 3yrs 9 mos 11 days and 24,631 miles (but who's counting?:)) I threw a used working 34264 PMD in, but no thermal pad or grease:eek: so it then worked for 2 mos 9 day and 465 measly miles. I immediately stopped using the truck when it began not only stalling but sputtering as well, as I figured a badly behaving pump might damage itself out of spite :p:

So - new D Tech PMD with supplied new fangled thermal pad in same location. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Move it out from behind the left battery to outside!!!

I marked it on my calendar, Bob. :)

"Who's counting"... I love it!
