: Water Mist Injection-----Lets Keep it cool!!
Crashly 02-26-2005, 12:47 AM I was very happy to find all of the great posts about the water mist injection. It seems like a great affordable way to cool EGT and reclaim some lost HP. So I am 95% sure that I want to go ahead with the project as soon as Heath gets some more in. Well here come the questions. Single stage or dual Stage? Should the water come in under high pressure to mist, or should it just flow in? I want to install it after the turbo blades where is the best location? Any thoughts on the variable stage injection that is based upon boost pressure??
Thanks
fredw 02-26-2005, 10:48 AM good info on it here http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21901
i would say single stage, yes needs to come in at high pressure, in an fine mist for best heat removal, variable could be a good option
quantum mechanic 02-26-2005, 11:26 AM I'm bidding on cahrge air coolers on ebay for $25-$100 and the watermist can't compare to chargeair in terms of efficency of opperation over the long run. Get a charge air IC first and add WMI to it.
While I was writting this someone got a vovlo 740 IC for $39.99 + $20 ship.
Crashly 02-26-2005, 12:05 PM I really like theIC charge air idea, But the one thing really holding me back is all custom bent tubing. It seems like the IC can be had fairly cheap on ebay. I have been toyiny with the idea to buy a bunch of prebent tubing and then start cutting and welding. Has anybody checked out the air-water IC on ebay? Anybody found an easy, affordable way to set this IC type system up?

I don't think it will be hard. Ebay lists lots of tubing kits with clamps and neoprene boots for different diameter inlet outlets.
This is for a car but it's $175 new.

Kennedy sells a really nice kit that is engineered to fit these trucks. I run it. It was the best money I've ever spent.
quantum mechanic 02-26-2005, 07:31 PM Nothing against kits. I just see how to do it cheaper and go for it. I think I could have the local muffler shop bend the pipe worst case.
Crashly 02-26-2005, 09:45 PM I hav ethought allot about the take it to the shop and have them bend it. I have been spending way to much time looking at the Ebay intercoolers. It would be sweet to get one that has the intake and exhaust tubes on the same end close to the passanger side. Then just turn the turbo ountylet down and with some minor bends and 90's it should seem to work. I like the JK kits as well; nice clean setup but I am somewhat cursed with a DIY mindframe, and a limited pocket book. Right now It seems possible with a little work it is easily possible to set up a WMI and a IC for less than 1K......
Turbine Doc 02-27-2005, 12:09 AM Crash one of the things about the JK kit see my sig link, is location of pipes, plumbing IMO for a down low IC would be harder to do, with a tube on each end. I will add that in my IC install you see where I used flex pipe originally, at hi boost levels it weeped oil, I went to a speed shop that does turbo installs and had them make custom tubes for the pieces I could not fit rite. Unless you have a muffler shop that can mandrel bend so no krinkles are in the tube I would not use muffler tube. You need as smooth a flow as possible, also get the biggest IC you can afford, too small an IC can put excess head pressure for the turbo to overcome.
16gaSxS 02-28-2005, 07:42 PM Yeah Ron I know you love your IC but durring hunting season if I had one it would have been toast it was bad enough I took out the lower air dam and bent the bumper. I now have a customized bumper!
steiner43511 02-28-2005, 07:47 PM yeah i ripped off the air dam's on my past two trucks by either drivin too fast through a corn field or goin muddin.
quantum mechanic 02-28-2005, 08:03 PM I promise not to mount an air to air anywhere but directly if front of the truck. Actually, I'm thinking about running up to three Intercoolers. A charge air up front, then WtA, then the evapcooler. I expect intake temps to be on demand. The charge air will cool it to near ambient, the WtA will further cool it to ambient or if you off cycle the pump the core will retain heat(winter application) and the supercooler can take it down another 40-60 degrees F at the touch of a button, Actually the A/c button as this is an extreme heat measure for serious aircharge density.

Turbine Doc 02-28-2005, 08:23 PM If, I have to get that ugly where truck mite be at risk I drag my Bronco 2 to the woods behind the GMC, bash & trash it, my GMC is to purty, it's my "Good Truck" us Suthern fellas have more than 1 truck, I have 3. If I knew I was going to be hardcore offroad with mine more than towing; probably WMI would be my selection, but I'd also maybe look at an armor cage for my IC if doing part time hardcore offroad. Bigger tires and lift would help some.

Turbine Doc 02-28-2005, 08:27 PM No stone chisleing easiest place to do it with real estate available to locate it, I guess GM dictated it go there, they should have equipped them from day one with IC's same as 6.2 should have been a turbo 6.5 all along. Diesel in a truck and not turbo or IC what's the point IMO.
I promise not to mount anywhere but directly if front of the truck. Who chisled it in stone that the IC had to ride there anyway?
16gaSxS 03-01-2005, 04:42 PM Yeah Turbine Doc I should have used my Early Bronco instead but I hate putting them damn stinky deer in the back or on the hood or roof. The if I would have been smart and took the long way back to the house I could have avoided the smashed bumper. To be fair if I did have that IC under the bumper I would have not "tried" the slick hill I hit, but I did make it, just tweaked the truck, noone but myself to blame.
Turbine Doc 03-01-2005, 05:41 PM That is why I have one of those reciever hitch mesh deck carriers on mine strap them stinky deer to it, & hose it off when I get back to the cabin.

qwestqaz 03-02-2005, 07:15 AM You guys hunting in wrong place, Maine deer are not " Stinky "
BUT DARN HARD TO FIND
Turbine Doc 03-02-2005, 08:42 AM I'll risk some stink with the Alabama's 75 day deer season if you include bow, 2/day bag limit entire season, what they lack in size made up for in quantity, plus you don't need a parka to go hunting, been to BIW in Maine many times, nice place to visit, too cold for this red-neck to live there. Deer don't stink unless you gut shot one or have to drag them thru the muck out of a bayou bottom.

I had one of those the thing broke going down a field road with 2 dog boxes on it and thankfully I was only going about 15 mph and didn't hurt the dogs. I have been leary of getting another, the one I had was "suppose to hold 500 pounds" a 65lb dog and 50lb dog and 2 plastic dog boxes are no where near 500lbs. I think the welds were bad. I'm just thankfull I wasn't going 60 mph down the hiway when it happened. Besides the pickup is much nice ride but, Bronco much funner.
