I changed the spin-on filter today. I have never checked the level before today. The allison fluid check says 160-200 for hot level check. I received my truck in Dec and have never had a temp above 130. When I checked level today I had a temp of 120-130 and the fluid level was just above the top cold line. I know it will expand/go up with temp just want to make sure level to temp is what others see/saw. Thanks in advance.

i was told when you change the spin on filter you need to add a quart of fluid

 There's no way that little bitty filter can hold a quart of trans fluid!

A quart is too much... I changed mine and measured what came out (besides what was in the filter) and it was about 1 shot glass full. My trans was totally cold and had been sitting in the garage for several days before I changed it.

I changed mine cold and did not loose enough to worry about. Don't forget to clean or replace the magnet that sits on the filter.

When I change mine, I just fill up the new filter with fluid to the top of the filter, before I install it. After taking off the old the filter, the fluid loss is minimal. My tranny levels are always right on after doing it this way.
