just as it says...I have removed the hitch and i have a roll pan to put on since i dont pull any trailers. I know you can remove the tailgate, spare, jacks, battery etc. Is there anything else that can be removed that is not needed to ditch some weight? Just stupid extra stuff. ive been thinking what else could be removed from these truck to make them lighter without sacrificing daily driveability.

no rear seat in a standard cab.

6 bolts.... pull the bed. :D

on a reg cab, there's only so far that you can go before your into modded body parts and light materials. that list you put up pretty much says it.

how much lighter than %6600lbs% are you wanting to go?

strip the cab, remove AC (all components), then start removing unimportant things like seatbelts :P

Race with one seat remove the tow hooks and I did read where some people have even removed the front sway bar.

I think the hooks are 12 lbs a piece...

You could always pull a Lennart and go for a short bed...;-)

Spare tire carrier? With a rollpan, well mine at least it's nearly impossiblle to access the cable winder anyway.

Lighter wheels? I think Weight in your wheel\tire combo makes more difference per pound than weight on the chassis.

I heard 1 # on a wheel is worth 5 in the bed.

The rule of thumb I was always told was 1lb of rotating weight was equal to 7lbs of stationary weight.

If you weigh more than 80#s go on a diet and you don't really need the left arm and possibly the left leg if you've got an alli. :D

do you have a muffler or full exhaust, loose them.

aluminum rear driveshaft.

gut the inside of front bumper and braces.

helium in tires

haha i finally got my rollpan on. its hard to go lighter on the wheels. most aftermarket wheels are going to be heavier.

Do you have skid plates?

Throw some wrinkle walls out back and lose all 4wd components, theres a lot of weight there! Fiberglass panels. Hood alone you can save a good 60 lbs. Lose all rotating mass possible. Lighter tire/wheel combo like skinnies up front if you ditch 4wd. Aluminum/titanium/carbon fiber driveshaft. Switch to manual locks/windows. The list goes on forever, depends what you wanna give up.

yea i surely not ditching the 4wd then there would be no more 4wd launches. i have been looking at new hoods.

If you aren't going to tow or haul you have way more frame than you need. Cut it truss style with a plasma, or a selection of hole saws. Remove a few from the leaf spring pack and add some traction bars. There are much lighter rear difs than the G80.

:nopics:what tire size are you running 16 and 17 inch light truck tires(each) weigh about 60-70# while 20 inch weigh about 30-40#, rims should not put back weight. single up on battery.

like others say how extreme you want to go?

stripping bumpers, heat sheild on uundr hte cab, insulation, crash bars form the doors,

swis cheesing the frame by drilling 1-2" hole in it. then cone bend the holes to regain the stregnth back.

hood, fender, fiberglas bed, etc

Perhaps this over simplifys it.....

Strip everything you don't use/need/can do without/makes it uncomfortable. It won't be enough.... It weighed 7000 when you bought it:D

Simply put more turbo on it (N20 whatever) and leave all the stuff on it, you gain a couple tenths maybe, by shedding weight.

Gain that easy with some other mod adding more power.

would a solid front axle weigh less than all the IFS components?

06DuramaxLBZ
08-11-2008, 05:34 PM
I still say biggest weight loss is gonna be ditch the 4wd. Put some real tires under it, and keep your boosted 4wd launch. With proper weight distribution, you can still do 4wd launches.. and not scrub top end speed from turning 2 differentials. Plenty of vehicles with much more power out there turning only one pair of tires.

yea i dont want to make it uncomfortable. The stuff i ditched so far is stuff i wanted gone. Like spare tire, ditches bumper for a rollpan, ETC. I think a solid rear would weigh about the same as the IFS. I dont wanna make it to umcomfortable. I still want to be able to drive it everyday if i wanted to :D
