Hello Guys,

Hope I can get some advise, tell me if this is something I should get checked or not.

I was driving a short distance (5 miles) in slush and snow in the evening, in 4wd. Overnight the temp went into the 20s. The message SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM came on the next morning. It was not on the night before while I was driving.

After a few minutes of morning driving the message went off. The brakes never felt as if I needed service. Could it be slush and ice caught up someplace, and it melted away wen I started driving? The truck has less than 4,000 miles and no problems have surfaced.

Thanks,:ro)

There is an updated EBCM calibration to address a service brake system message that comes on intermittantly during initial start up with no dtcs set. Have the dealer reference bulletin #04-05-25-005A.

DO THIS
DON'T DO THIS

Reprogram the EBCM with TIS version 7.5 Released July 26,2004 or newer.
DO NOT replace the EBCM.

Condition
Some customers may comment that the ABS light, Service Brake System message comes on intermittently during initial start-up. The condition does not cause a DTC to be stored permanently.

Cause
The cause may be a timing issue related to the cranking/starting of the vehicles. It appears that the condition is more likely to occur on vehicles with diesel engines, though it can occur on vehicles with gasoline engines as well.

Correction
Reprogram the EBCM with TIS software version 7.5, released July 26,2004 or newer. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (SI Document ID #1451930).
