I am completely new to this diesel game.

If I put a Juice/Attitude system on is there a learn period at all? I know that with the predator there is some time needed.

I've been weighing my options for the last week and after I thought about the predator for quite some time I've switched to the Edge setup. I figure by the time I buy the predator and some guages so I know whats going on I might as well spend a little more and get the Edge.

Am I on the right track with this thinking?

Also What else should I get? I am thinking about going with some exhuast mods to keep the EGT down. Maybe not a full exhaust yet. Just give me some comments on what I have come up with so far.

Thanks

I'm quite new this diesel edge thing also. I bought my edge and installed it last summer. I really like it, I've had no problems at all. I don't know for sure about a learn period, but mine performed great right away. I had to test it as soon as it was installed and it appeared to learn quick as it really came alive. They say the trans takes time to learn. I don't know, I haven't noticed any diference since I installed it. I normally run on level 1 or 2 empty. 3 pulling my trailer. What a difference pulling.
Love it.

What do you have exactly. The allison will need to relearn anytime it has the power changed up or down.

I have an 02 with an allison tranny. If you can change an Edge on the fly what is the point if it takes time to relearn it.

At first you run the edge at whatever level your comfortable with, the allison will shift erraticacly, until it "learns" . I left mine on level 4 (90hp LLY)for 2 weeks, lots of mileage and after that, changing levels on the fly aren't really much difference in the allison learning process, it has already learned your driving habits with the added power. Most people say 90 hp is max for a stock tranny.

The edge is a good way to go my tranny got used to it and I change levels on the fly all the time. Even if the tranny is learning it makes a huge difference. It just feels better once it has learned it.

I just bought the truck... today. I am ordering parts as we speak. Grille, Bowtie, Edge Juice/Attitude, maybe some clear headlights, and a speaker box... Ok if you can't tell I am going to be BROKE before the weekend is over. Anyway, I won't be able to do tranny work for a while.
Now to my main question. Am I going to be able to put it on the 90 setting and let it learn that and drive it safely, then if I need the extra bump in power knock it up all the way just for a quick run. Then back down to the 90.
I never tow in the summer and honestly I don't tow that much in the summer. When I do its never planned. That's one reason I want the juice/attitude combo so I can swap it right there.
As long as I can keep up with or outrun a guy with the same truck as I have with a superchips I don't care. :)

What else can I do to get a little more of an edge on him? He has a K&N as well.

I could be wrong, but I thought adding or removing any chip/tuner is when the tranny has to relearn, not just by changing levels. Edge suggests after installation to give it like 200 shifts or something for it to learn and also if you remove it, it has to learn again. correct me if I am wrong. The Allison tranny is an adaptive tranny anyways to the drive, as said above.

Edge also suggests not running on the highest level unless you have tranny mods done becaust it WILL fry it!!!

one of the main benefits the edge *** has over the superchips, is the attitude has built in guages and also tranny protection (defueling)

if you are getting this just to race then I would spend the money on beefing up the tranny first.

just my $.02

Its not entirely to race. I want to just be able to stay with him. He runs it on the 95 setting. I don't want to hurt the truck in anyway. It would be a great plus if I could outrun him. At any rate I like the safety in the edge setup.

Are there any cheap tranny mods I can do that will beef it up some? I just can't afford 2k right now.
