Most turbos do not have the ability to measure turbine RPM. There have been some attempts in the past by placing a speed sensor on the shaft between the hot and cold sides of the turbo, but this area still sees a great deal of heat.

Of course, this doesn't mean there isn't something being developed that might be able to do it.

The LLY turbo has a built in speed sensor.

no speed sensors, only a vane position sensor that goes directly on top. And of course the actuator on the pass side.

Hmmm... I've heard from a few folk that it had an RPM sensor. Guess I better actually look around back there before I open my mouth! :eek:
