: Help, 17" wheels on HD

I was gonna put 315/75/16's on my stock HD wheels but the wife has advised against this due to the "danger" factor.

So now I have decided that if I am going to get rims, then I might as well get 17's. I'm really not sure what look I want but I am leaning towards the Verde Boxers, but they only come in 17x9 in the 17's. I am not sure on the backspacing but I know that the 16x8's have a BS of 4.25" so I am assuming that the 17x9's also have a 4.25" BS.

I am also looking to get the biggest tire on this rim that I can fit so I was looking at the 305/70/17 which is roughly 34x12x17.

I have my torsion bars raised and a 2" block in the rear on my HD. I'll do the green keys if they will help and I'll do any necessary trimming to make these fit except cut the metal bumper.

My other option is 285/70/17 on the 17x9's.

My last option is 305/70/16 on the 16x8's.

Or who knows, if I go to 4WP, I may find something totally different.

Does anyone see a problem with these fitting?

Sorry I'm not too much help on the tire and wheel choice. Although I can say I've got 285's on aftermarket 16" weld wheels and they fit pretty good, did require some trimming to make work with no cranking of the torsion bars.

Anyway if 4 wheel parts is what yo'ure reffering to when you said 4wp then you might want to check out this thread http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18985&highlight=wheel+parts

i am running the 17x8.5 Weld renegades, with 5.125 bs. if yyour wheels are only 4.25 - 4.5, you may have some pretty good rubbing on the rear wheel well. I have the green keys and reshaped the plastic liner, I also have a front end replacement. If you can get closer to 5" bs, you will probably be able to fit the 315/70R17 with a lot less rubbing. 285/70R17 would work well thought with your 4.5 bs. if you can test fit with everything on, try backing up down hill or sharply turning up a drive way and this will give you the best idea of daily driving

Had an 01 with the factory 16's on it. Biggest tire I felt comfortable with were the 295/75/16's(alittle over 33" tall). They towed just fine. I now have an 04.5 with 17's and the biggest I could go with and still put my truck in the garage were 315/70/17's(35"tall) Both were BFG AT's. I would recommend both.

whats the danger factor the wife is talking about?

she is probably talking about putting a tire that is rated for an 8 - 10 " wheel on a stock wheel that is only 6.5" wide. :badidea:
