just got back from a 1400 mile trip and on the way up there i stopped to sleep and let my truck run from like 12;30AM to 6;30am to have AC. everything was fine and no problems at all. i got all set to hit the road and when i took off my truck was blowing white smoke. but not at idle. the truck ran fine and all too. after like 3-5 minutes of driving it was gone. i checked the oil and it was fine also. my neighbor told me it could be something about the injection and to take it to the stealer because its not suppose to do that. anyone know what could cause this?

could have been unburned fuel lingering in and around combustion area....

My truck idles at about 300 degrees, and which may not be enough temp to burn fuel completely....

I had a LB7 doing that. Had someone say it was a sign on injectors going bad. Buddy of mine scanned it and all injectors wasnt doing good at idle. Traded it in a week later.

If it runs good then dont worry about it. I have been driving truck for 20 years and when you let them run for an extended period of time the unburned fuel and parafins build up in the combustion chamber and the exhaust system. Then when you take off it will take a minute or so to get the exhaust temps up to burn all that crud off. It could take a while longer to burn everything out of the cat converter. All this = white smoke.

100,000 on motor and tranny. 36,000 on everything else, so his white smoke should be covered if there is anything wrong.

This is exactly it. Diesels don't particularly like idling for extended periods, as they tend to get too cold to burn off all the impurities in the fuel. This ends up being white smoke. As far as damage to the engine, or the injectors being bad: doubtfull. I would wait untill it is making white smoke all the time before I asumed the injectors were going south.

thanks for all the replys guys. hopefully its not a problem. when it happened it sucked major ass though because i had a fully loaded trailer in bufu kentucky at a pilot.

i will watch it close for white smoke. at idle it puts a very little puffs of white smoke (barely any at all) but its done that since it was new. ive read about the LBZs making a little smoke at idle.

I drag campers for a living and under extreme weather conditions I will idle for a few hours and what your expierenceing is not an issue. it's unburnt fuel and moisture that collects in the system and burns off when your EGTs get up in operating temps.

its unburnt fuel go to a truckstop over nite and watch when the semis take off in the morning will blow it out till motor or egt get hot again to burn it off.

can become hard on your rings with build up.

i wouldnt suggest doing it long periods.

thats why im my semi when i idled i would rev it up to like 1000 rpm to some what keep the heat to burn it off and where it would idle smooth.

as far as i know all duramax engines have the 100k warranty, pre 07 is 36k on the rest. 07 and later is 100k moter, tranny, all the drivetrain parts xfer case, axle, diffs, driveshafts.. but not wear parts, like tires and brakes. Whatever isn't drivetrain has a 36k

The smoke could also be an accumalation of oil from the pvc. Either way it should not be a real problem. I think to 06 warranty is 100K for engine and 36K for everything else.
