Today's project was to straighten our flagpole that somehow the wind has gradually pushed out of plumb. Wrapped a chain around the top of the concrete base and got out our 15,000 lb. forklift. The torque converter just wasn't up to the job, and I wanted no part of jerking the chain. Next choice was the JD 730 std., diesel. This tractor has no regular duties, except an occasional parade. Pulled the pole into plumb in a jiffy. Figured the batteries hadn't charged yet, so took a ride up the road. Backed it into the storage building and just couldn't shut it off it sounded so good.

Memo to self........... Find more projects for the 730. ;)

Great stuff! Nothing beats the sound of those old 2-cylinder diesels.

Whats was the 730, around 60hp? I bet it would give a 80hp gaybota a run for its money.

I believe 58 hp. My Son-in-Law has an old M&W dynometer, and it was right on 58 on this tractor. That motor held the fuel economy record at the Nebraska tractor tests for years and years. Maybe still standing for all I know.
Tom, if we should get another sunny day sometime, I'll post a picture.

Little off topic, but I went to school at the University of Nebraska. Had many many classes over at the tractor test lab on East Campus. Pretty sweet setup. It was always neat to watch them test the brand new four wheel drive tractors. Sometimes they would hook as many as 3 tractors together to slow those big tractors down.
