I am looking at buying a 5th wheel camper its pin box stick out from the nose of trailer right around a foot. I have a 06 ext cab short bed lbz. Please point me in the right direction as i have to order the hitch very soon. The truck has the Reese signature series rails installed from the old owner. Thanks

just have to be careful , too sharp on a turn the truck and the camper get screwed up. I pull a 32 foot hitchhiker and havent screwed up yet. painter

Mine hasn't hit the cab yet ... just watch it close.

Alot depends on the design of the front cap of the trailer as well. Some trailers are recessed in at the corners which will give you alot more clearance for turning, especialy the newer trailers

Better to have one and not need it, then not have one and need it.

Good luck.

I have a sliding hitch but never needed to use it. I just watch carefully and the 5th wheel corners are a little recessed.

I have a manual sliding hitch and use it from time to time. I did make a u-turn and bust the rear window out.....

Do you need it all the time, no. Will you need it at some time....YES.

If you want pictures of what happens when you don't have one (or don't slide it when you should), let me know, I can post them!!!

Look at the Pullrite Superglide. This is an automatic slider. It is expensive but will pay for itself by sliding when you need it and not when you think about it. If you tow a lot, its only a matter of time before the fiver goes through the window.

I bought a slider recently even though I do not plan to use it much (I have an extended pinbox). I just wanted a hitch that I could rely on for the long haul no matter what truck or trailer combination that I end up with.

same here, never slid it back yet and turned a lot of sharpies, I don't think mine could hit as iv'e had it turn to turn tight and it has 6" clearance from cab

Fire44..you took the words out of my mouth... I posted mine a few months ago.

Conifer163... True words.. I towed my fiver about 25 thousand before I took my window out...thankfully just the window, no damage to the fiver..

All fivers are not created equally. Mine has never gotten closer than 6" even on a angle. The Furd only has like a 4 1/2 ft bed, bet those have taken out a few cabs. It's really funny looking if you study it. Myself don't look at em too much since I got the Dmax..

I bought a 16 K slider because it was recommended. There have been a few times when I was glad I had it.....as in towing a friends 5th wheel for him. I have a lot of room for backing, and watch it closely when I do. BUT.....I do use it most of the time. I have found that the extra length from the trucks rear wheels when it is slid back sure helps in backing..... it corrects and reacts quicker for much easier maneuvering ability. It is easy to operate and I've had no problems with it.

I have had a short bed and slider hitch with a 5th wheel camping trailer for 10 years and been to alot of different campgrounds and haven't needed to slide the hitch yet but I like it for the added security if I ever do need it.

Sometimes it's not how far you turn it's the ground level that truck and trailer our setting on. I have a slider and don't use it all the time but when turning into a tight spot and the ground is not level your going to wish you had a slider. Like someone stated its better to have it and not use it than to not have it and need it!!

I just put a Fifth Airborne on on my trailer and love it. I have had some very close calls with my trailer and now I have plenty of clearance. The ride is so much better not feeling all the bumps on the freeway. I would recommend it to anyone towing a fifth wheel.

The corner of the trailer just seems to sneak up on you, and I have a slider hitch also. Just to lazy to get out and move it back. I knew that someday I would have to pay if I did not do something about it. Money well spent.

They didn't put one on my truck because they thought the box on the 5er would hit the tailgate when it was slid back, so far no problems.

I have the slider on mine for about 9 years and have never needed it yet but in case I do need it then it is there. I feel better with it. Just be careful.
