I just picked up a 3500 with 2-3yd. dump. Exactly how does the PTO work, the salesman didn't really understand it, so we didn't get into it. The manual doesn't really touch on it much either, we plow and run salters with our trucks, but how exactly does it work with these systems. What else can be run with them? The dump is electric/ hydraulic so that doesn't use the PTO either.

our 2004 3500 has the pto driven pump running a central hydraulic system. this operates the dump body and is set up for operating a spreader with seperately variable auger and spinner. could also be rigged to operate the hydraulics for a plow too if you we really wanted to.
our 2006 3500 has the pto driven pump running an electric over hydraulic dump body only.
not positive exactly how it all works either but it does work very well, especially the central hydraulics, although they take up quite a bit of room in the cab.
