I am looking for source for 8 inch steel rims to replace the 6 1/2 inch stock. The size increase needs to be outwards or, in other words, the setback must be the same as stock which I believe is 4 inches (correct?).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks 03GMC. I looked and looked (google, etc.) and didn't find these. But in the meantime, though, my options have increased considerabley. I actually took a wheel off today and measured the back spacing on stock. It turnes out that it is 4 1/2" rather than the 4" that I had assumed. Incidentally, I'm going from the 6 1/2" stock rim to an 8" because I anticipate doing a lot of "de-airing" to get through sand and it seems to me that I will be less likely to lose a bead with the wider tire.

Z71 - I go for extended trips in areas that are days (as much as a week) from parts and being immobilized can be a life changing experience. A bent steel wheel I can bend back into shape if I have to. A damaged aluminum wheel is a bit more of a challenge. Regarding rust, I can get a steel wheel sand blasted and repainted and it will be indistinguishable from a new one.

I had a lot of trouble getting rims to fit the wife's H2, same size brakes as we have.

The recess that the tire goes in is on the inboard side of rim and hits the caliper, this was on steel wheels.

I wanted something cheap just for mud/winter tires.

I even looked at 16.5 rims and had the same problem, ended up getting MT classicII in 16.5 for her car.

In other words, I wouldn't buy unless u can try first.

My tire shop was really helpful and I even talked to his supplier but couldn't get him to understand what the problem was.

Tim -

That is why I am specifically looking at the rear/back spacing which is 4 1/2 " on the stock wheels. It "looks" like there might be room for 5" but I wouldn't bet on it. I had the same experience as you when I bought a used wheel for a second spare. Fortunately I discovered the problem in my driveway rather than in more inconvenient circumstances.

Don't ever buy anything at http://www.4wheelparts.com

They are BAD people - there is more than 1 thread on this forum about them.....
