Took the truck in today for the engine light being on and they say it needs a new EGR valve. Anyone else had this problem?, what causes this? Truck has 22000 miles and we follow the scheduled maintenance. Anyway, what is an EGR valve and what does it do?

Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valve. Pain in the butt in my book. Just another emissions piece of junk. I have mine blocked off Censored . My oil stays cleaner and i believe I get less soot out of my truck. I get an initial second or so of soot as compared to a long drowned out ride of soot.

just like they say, grab a big cup of coffee, or 12 pack of beer if you prefer, and search for egr. there is plenty of reading. :lol:

My EGR was replaced at around 10,000 miles. It didn't help with anything though, the mileage is still bad and the truck still surges and smokes.

From what I have read on the subject, lose the kitty, block the EGR with a plate, install a Finger Stick, and all is good. Thats my plan any way.

Can someone tell me what this finger stick is that you are all speeking of?

do a search on Finger Stick and you will see that it is a EGR defeater circuit that will mask any codes of the EGR and MAF sensors from adding intakes, free flowing exhaust systems and egr blocker plate or any of the combination. you can block off the egr and install the finger stick to keep the codes eloiminated and still remain stock the rest of the way. with the egr blocked, my truck runs a little quieter and the oil stays cleaner longer. The price is right and you can't beat it.
