My 1988 6.2L Chevy P30 Step van that is converted to an ice cream truck was running fine until we were at an event and the 3000 watt inverter began to kick out as the voltage was low...it stopped kicking out if we ran the engine a little higher than idle speed. The alternator is new (200 Amp) and on the way home when the engine was at running speed the inverter began to kick out again...I turned the inverter off to get home and parked it for the night.

The next morning I tried starting the truck and nothing...thinking the alternator had failed I charged the batteries and tested them and they are fine but when I turn the key on nothing...no glow light nada.

Any thoughts...the starter is new...last year.

Seems that one of the wires from the starter solenoid had burnt off...not sure if it was up against the exhaust manifold or what...now I have to find a connector/splice to reduce the size of the wire ..looks like number 6 or 8 wire going down to a number 10 or 12..not sure.

Yep, typical '80s GM B+ wire failure...

are you saying this is normal...maybe it did not touch the exhaust manifold?

No, not normal. It's just it's a very, very common issue... That wire is a very frequent failure point, in part due to how close it is to the manifold and in part due to all the vibration. There should be a heat shield between it and the manifold though.

just a number

just run the b+ wire straight to the battery. the all you have is the one wire from the ign switch. I covered mine with the foil duct tape to help with he heat and wear.
