: XM Radio
hattric73 02-24-2005, 12:38 PM I went with my dad to Northern MN this weekend in his 05 D/A. He had the XM radio and I thought it was great. I was thinking about upgrading my Colorado so that it has XM capability. Is it worth the $3-400 to install the system?? What are your guys' experiences with it?
Chisuzu 02-24-2005, 12:49 PM Came with truck. Love it.
Oilbrnr 02-24-2005, 01:44 PM
After my 3 month free trial is up, I will NOT be signing up. I find myself flipping through the channels more than I do with local radio.
I'll be switching out the XM module for a Sirius one prior to Stern moving over, but I don't expect Sirrus music selections to be much different than XM.
Traffic channel has helped out a couple of times here in Phx. however...
My advise would be to find a used one on ebay, or do the SoundGate module with the Kenwood XM or Sirius reciever. Either way, it would be much cheeper than getting the OEM kit.
NorCal 2500HD 02-24-2005, 02:03 PM you either gonna love it or hate it.....i have it in my truck and never listen to the radio anymore.....
sprintmod1 02-24-2005, 02:20 PM Love it! But I guess I'm gonna be changing next year because it looks like NASCAR is switching from XM to Sirius; it must suck to be us, costs us money, not them, to switch to a different radio. :help: Censored Censored
Romark1 02-24-2005, 02:25 PM I've got it also and I find that I don't use it that much. When I tune to the stations that I think I would like like 46 Toptracks, they always seem to be playing some junk that should be on the 60's station or the light rock stations. I assumed that Classic rock would be just that. It seams that if a song is grouped in that catagory then they will play it no matter how good it is. They never play the "Toptracks" that I remember from the 70's and 80"s.
Most everything else I don't like. It looks good on paper but in reality not really.
My .02
Mark

Looks like Sirius is in my future then too...Thats one of the biggest reasons I have it.Censored
mahalkita 02-24-2005, 02:41 PM I love it. Looks like it depends a lot what you like to hear. The normal radio has mostly only commercials which I really hate. For me the songs are all OK, love the channel 71 (watercolors) and 72 (beyond jazz) and also the world music....but people have different taste and preference so they might not like it.
The quality of reception is also mostly very good - so only positive from my side.
sprintmod1 02-24-2005, 02:47 PM Eric, it's the primary reason we have it in the truck, to listen to qualifying and the races when we are on the road back and forth to the dirt tracks every weekend. And they want to know why more and more fans don't care any more. NA$CAR as we like to put it. Guess I know why I'm beginning to not care about them anymore. Gotta stop the bleeding somewhere. Here's the excerpt:
Sirius Satellite Radio takes over NASCAR Broadcasts in 2007: Sirius Satellite Radio on Tuesday announced a five-year agreement to give Sirius North American satellite radio rights to broadcast NASCAR racing and events that will bring unprecedented programming and marketing opportunities to NASCAR fans. Beginning in 2007, Sirius will broadcast all Nextel Cup Series, Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series races live on a specially created, 24/7 NASCAR channel, and Sirius will be the only place on satellite radio to listen to NASCAR. As part of the agreement, Sirius will become the Official Satellite Radio Partner of NASCAR, with exclusive trademark and marketing rights, and the right to sell all advertising time on its NASCAR channel and during the race broadcasts. Sirius will pay NASCAR rights fees totaling $107.5 million over the term of the agreement, with the highest payments in the final years of the term. Sirius and NASCAR will work together to develop an extensive consumer marketing and outreach campaign for NASCAR fans. This effort could include advertising, cross-channel promotion throughout Sirius programming, officially licensed products, extensive at-track activation and ways for current NASCAR fans to switch to Sirius.(NASCAR PR), would assume XM Satellite Radio is out after the 2006 season as NASCAR Radio. This has NO effect on regular radio broadcasts.(2-22-2005)

so can you switch to a sirius module and still control it through the factory radio?
Chisuzu 02-24-2005, 05:08 PM Apparently so. You just need the correct adapter. Someone on here has done it before. Do a search on Sirius and you should find it.
Cobra#3747 02-24-2005, 06:26 PM I have both XM and sirius. Sirius has much better music channels. Only reason I dont still have Sirius in the truck is because of all the FM modulator problems I was having and got sick of it. I have Sirius at work, can listen to 1 or 2 stations all day and never get tired of the station, unlike XM where I end up jumping around a lot.

Cobra#3747, good to hear that Sirius might be better programming!

Cobra#3747 02-25-2005, 11:32 AM Dont have to drill any holes for the sirius antenna, I ran it through my 3rd brake light.
Oilbrnr 02-25-2005, 11:35 AM So, is there anyone out there that confirm the OEM XM antenna will not work with Sirius, and if so, what did you replace it with that still conformed to the curve of the leading edge of the cab?

I would say if you like music and don't care that much about nascar, get the xm. It is a little less money per month. I never listien to fm/am anymore.
bigdaddy650r 02-25-2005, 01:22 PM I e-mailed XM about the NASCAR switch ,no reply yet.
My XM came with the truck, it is awesome during my 50 min. commute to not have to listen to commecials or some stupid rambling DJ.
# 40 deeptrack "ROCKS!":cool2:
FM IS DEAD!
LONG LIVE SAT. RADIO!
B-rad 02-25-2005, 06:36 PM i hate it. but i did renew it for another 3 months.i have been hearing alot less music and alot more talking and commercials on xm the last 2 weeks. i will not be renewing after my 3 months is up. i can listen to bad music and commercials for free on regular radio
Chisuzu 02-25-2005, 07:09 PM I like it, but I live out in the middle of nowhere where we have no decent stations. If I lived in an area that had decent stations, I might not have it either. I can see the hesitation when you live in the city, but if you have no alternatives, its the bomb!
