Kartattack 02-24-2005, 10:16 PM SWEET! I'd love to have something like that (and the toys). Too rich for my blood though. Enjoy.
michael nelson 02-24-2005, 10:28 PM more pics of the golf cart needed-lifted?do you got the v-twin 4 stroke?governed or not?
JJs DuMax 02-24-2005, 11:14 PM Nice rig. Enjoy! JJ :)
Terrain Twister 02-25-2005, 12:09 AM Hey Mike,
I know your more in to the sand, but I'm heading out to Ocotillo Wells on March 11th if your interested.
Who did you get your trailer from? Picture below is from our annual Dove Springs Turkey trip.
Chuck
diesel man 02-25-2005, 12:35 AM mike and terrain twister - nice rigs . weekend warrior top of the line .
DURAMAX1 02-25-2005, 01:01 AM Nice trailer 330R. I just picked up the same trailer, it is sweet. Toes really good. How are those tires affecting the power?
CalDirt 02-25-2005, 01:28 AM Mike how you hitched up to that thing - that a 5th or just a ball hitch? I thought you had to use a 5th/gooseneck for something that big but I see you have a CST (like me) and this is something I've been wresting with. I had to get lifted, but still don't know how I'll tow my toy hauler (that I haven't bought yet till I figure this out).
Thanks.
Terrain Twister 02-25-2005, 12:48 PM Caldirt,
One of the things you can do is have the axles flipped. I had mine done while being built and it was an instant 4" lift on the trailer. I did this to give the undercarriage more clearance while on some of the dirt roads I pull it thru. The downside, it makes it more top heavy and not as stable as without the 'lift'. I would think it's less of an issue with a pull behind though since your not as tall to begin with. I've also seen drop down hitches in the 16" range, so getting one long enough shouldn't be a problem. I'd personally flip the axles first though to shorten the amount of drop on the hitch. The other thing to consider is how many axles the trailer has. With the two pictures of the different trailers, you'll notice that both have 3 axles. Makes it harder to sway with more rubber touching the ground. If you can afford it, buy a hitch that is rated for more than you intend. You can bet that you'll one day wish you had it and it just gives a bigger safety margin.
Terrain Twister
P.S. Mikes trailer is a ball hitch.
CalDirt 02-26-2005, 12:49 PM Thank you Terrain Twister.
I'm looking for a 5th/gooseneck setup - just seems like it'd be more stable than a ball hitch. Any time I've towed ball hitch it just feels squirly - even on 2 axles. Haven't ever towed a 3 axle though.
It's sounding like with a 6" lift that might be impossible though since flipping the trailer axles only buys you 4" and I don't see how I could get the neck of the trailer up and over my tailgate and into my bed at the right heigth.
If anyone knows of some solution to this, I'd be interested in hearing.
Mike330R 02-26-2005, 01:46 PM Thanks for the props :)
I use a drop hitch and weight bars. Tows great! (it's a ball hitch)
the tires did affect the power but I have a TTS tow tune which helps. I can pull it at 50mph at the top of a 10 mile steep grade.
I'm not crazy about O wells, I grew up in 29 Palms and got plenty of desert riding there, can't beat the dunes!
Golf cart-2002 EZ-GO
Lifted 6", has a 295cc 4 stroke with a beefier clutch.
Had www.southcoastcustoms.net (http://www.southcoastcustoms.net/) build it for us.

Terrain Twister 02-26-2005, 06:58 PM No problem Mike, Just thought I'd give the invite.
Caldirt, with the axles flipped I'm right at 12" of clearance if I remember right. A 6" lift leaves you with 6" which should be safe as long as you don't get on anything to hairy. Of course, you also have to account for tire size. If I remember I'll double check the dimension for you and post it. It might be about a week or so though.
dieselfumes57 02-28-2005, 02:48 PM hey mike what does a setup like that run? i was thinking of one myself. i seen one on tv called the weekend warior or something and been hooked ever since.
Mike330R 02-28-2005, 03:20 PM This is a Weekend Warrior FS3000.
Sticker price was 36K with the options. If you paysticker I've got a bridge for sale ;)
Marbee40 03-01-2005, 06:05 PM ALL,
I just picked up a Raptor 3018 (33') 13000GVWR toy hauler. With that GVWR, I'm really thinking of yanking the stock hitch. Any brand recommendations for a Class V that aren't TOO expensive? Same for a quality WD system.
Thanks,
Marbee
2500_dmax_guy 03-01-2005, 08:50 PM yah mike thats a nice one got the same set up as you that thing tows awsome!!!! how many mile are you getting towing with that chip?
awsome setup :ro)
Goldneye 03-02-2005, 10:55 AM 330R, It's hard to tell from the pictures but with the golf cart, and 2 quads are you maxed out on storage space. (see sig) I can get my BAJA and 1 quad in my rig.
Buy the way nice set-up. Just wanted to know why did you not get a 5er?
Mike330R 03-02-2005, 02:36 PM I get 10-12 towing depending how heavy my foot is.
Goldneye- Yes it's close to being full with those 3 things inside. The cart about about 7 feet long and takes the most space.
This trailer has just over 16ft of cargo BEHIND the stove. If I wanted the same amount in a 5th wheel I would have had to have a 40+ft'er. Would have been harder to park in my spot at home.
2500_dmax_guy 03-02-2005, 06:34 PM hey mike are those steps powter coated the same color as your truck or are they black the way they come im thinking of getting some but my truck is white
Mike330R 03-02-2005, 06:55 PM They are painted to match but if I did it again they'd be powdercoated.
2500_dmax_guy 03-02-2005, 07:28 PM thinking of getting some but get them powder coated alot of stepping can creat wear can you buy them powder coated already to match your car?
Mike330R 03-02-2005, 07:32 PM Not sure from N-Fab. have them done yourself.
The fronts of the steps are chipped on mine, not where you step.
LBZrcks 03-02-2005, 07:40 PM Mike how you hitched up to that thing - that a 5th or just a ball hitch? CalDirt,
One of my friends has a Dmax with a fabtech 6" lift and he is able to tow a 5th Wheel without flipping the axles. He has like a 36' or 37' Tahoe Transport or something like that.
2500_dmax_guy 03-02-2005, 09:36 PM mike who makes your steps ?
Mike330R 03-03-2005, 10:54 AM www.n-fab.com
took a long to time ot get them.
2500_dmax_guy 03-03-2005, 11:33 AM thanks mike :ro)
Mark_my_word 03-03-2005, 06:58 PM Marbee40,
I have a 26' Gearbox front sleeper. Its pretty heavy, especially on the ball so I changed my hitch just to be safe. I went with the Reese Titan V. I also got the Reese Dual Cam sway control. I think its rated for a 1700 ball weight with a 17,000 tow. Of course that's more than I needed but I wanted a margin for error. Reese sells teh hitch and sway combination together with a price break. I don't recall how much it was but it wasn't cheap but I think it was worth it.
Mike330R,
Nice trailer / nice truck. Have seen you post a lot over at Glamisdunes as well. What kind of tires do you have and are they E load rated? I will be doing my lift and have been looking at tires. Haven't seen too many bigger tires that are E rated.
sprintmod1 03-04-2005, 02:49 PM Regarding the factory trailer hitch question, there are other posts on this forum, and lots of discussion at other forums, but it should be replaced. My hitch failed pulling 10,000 lbs and there are alot of others that have failed also. I replaced mine with a Putnam XDR class 5; they can be had from www.southwestwheel.com for about $150! One of the best investements you can make if you are pulling anything with the DMax!
CalDirt 03-05-2005, 11:41 AM So what exactly happened when your hitch failed? That sounds like a catastrophe.
Mike330R 03-05-2005, 11:46 AM I also switched to the Putnam XDR. Only bad thing is the weight bars are only 1000# and I need 1400.
They are the trunion (sp?) style and they don't make larger ones.
D-Maxx 03-16-2005, 06:37 PM I just ordered a Fleetwood Gearbox 295FS. I can't wait til it gets here!! It is being shipped here (Alaska) from Seattle, it's a 5er, and I got the hitch with the trailer. Has anyone installed the hitch for a 5er? Is it easy to do? They want $600 here to install it, I would like to save the money if I can. Also what are your thoughts on a 5er vs. a tag?
Terrain Twister 03-16-2005, 07:33 PM D-Maxx,
Installing my hitch took about a day and that was with one leg in a cast!
The custom instal kit that came with mine meant I only had to drill one hole on each side of the frame. That's on the L/B, S/B has no drilling. Could have easily cut that time in 1/2 without the cast.):h You'll love how the 5vr pulls compared to the ball.
Something to watch for on that trailer. Fleetwood has had some delamination issues with the fiberglass sides. I know of a few people that have had there units bought back. But that was on the early models as far as I know. Otherwise, nice trailer. Would have probably bought one myself if the 5vr was out at the time I bought mine.
D-Maxx 03-16-2005, 07:38 PM Thanks for the info TT. I have been on RV.net and heard about those issues, I'm hoping here in AK that will not be an issue since it is a lot cooler. How about the brake controller? Is it just plug-n-play?
SLEEZ 03-16-2005, 10:58 PM Mike330R,
Did you buy your Warrior from Shawn Zang (Head Injury) on Glamis Dunes? I'm in the market for a new hauler, out grew my old one. I've talked to Shawn from Giant RV in Murrieta, I've seen all the post about the awesome deals and customer service from him. If not, Which dealer did dealer did you get yours from?
Mike330R 03-16-2005, 11:03 PM Shawn didn't have what I wanted in stock, if he did I would have bought from him.
I got mine from travelOn in San Diego
www.travelonrv.com
They just happen to have this on the lot.
Ask for Cameron.
Terrain Twister 03-17-2005, 12:36 PM D-Maxx,
My Prodigy was mostly plug and play. If you want a recommendation though, I'll be upgradeing mine this year to the Brakesmart. Seems to be the best controller out there for the load behind me. I haven't had any problems with the Prodigy though.
SLEEZ,
Grew up with Shawn (Headinjury), lived 10 houses down on same side of street! Tell him if he doesn't take care of you I have pictures I'll post! We felt we got a screaming deal though at the time we bought ours.
bartman 03-29-2005, 09:02 PM Here's a picture of my rig...
Mike330R 03-29-2005, 09:43 PM Nice!
techprof1 03-30-2005, 11:10 AM I just ordered a Fleetwood Gearbox 295FS. I can't wait til it gets here!! It is being shipped here (Alaska) from Seattle, it's a 5er, and I got the hitch with the trailer. Has anyone installed the hitch for a 5er? Is it easy to do? They want $600 here to install it, I would like to save the money if I can. Also what are your thoughts on a 5er vs. a tag?
D-Maxx, I put a B&W undermount hitch on my previous rig, took about 4 hours. It is really not that bad. A top mount will take about the same time. I'd recommend that you do it yourself.
--------------------------
Sleez,
Check around. I would not pay more than a buck a foot for a TH. I worked both Travelon (Mesa) and Giant. Ended up with Travelon. They threw in an extra couch and had the axles flipped for me locally. The WW are sweet rigs.
----------------------
Mike330R,
Nice Rig! (and toys)!! I really tossed it around to go with the 33 tow behind or the 40' 5'er. No regrets...I love the 40' 5'er. If I see you down at the dunes, I'll stop by. I like the cart as well. We generally go to Gordon's or Olgalby. 3 more trips planned this season....then it is too hot.
TOYHLER 04-04-2005, 02:24 PM HELLO CAL DIRT
I JUST PURCHASED AT 40' FOOT WEEKEND WARRIOR 5THWHEEL TRAILER AND HAD THE AXLES FLIPPED. MY TRUCK IS A 2001 GMC CREWCAB DURAMAX,IT HAS A SIX INCH PROCOMP LIFT KIT,AND 35 INCH PROCOMP XTERRAINS, RUNNING EDGE AND BANKS EXHAUST,AND AIRBAGS. THE TRAILER TOWS GREAT BEHIND THE TRUCK AND HAS PLENTY OF CLEARANCE :grd:
CalDirt 04-06-2005, 09:24 PM Thanks Toyhler. Did you have to install any kind of "extender" on your airbags to get them to cover the increased gap, since the 6" lift has larger blocks than stock?
TOYHLER 04-08-2005, 01:51 PM Yes I Fabbed The Blocks Myself. My Friend Has A Great Fabrication Shop, But The Extensions Can Be Bought Aftermarket.
spoolnaround 04-09-2005, 01:01 AM I just upgraded myself. I had a 25' Tahoe tb and purchased a 36' Vortex Viper.

Liftedhdrado 04-18-2005, 02:07 PM My next toy is a Fleetwood Gear Box...I want something like this: I believe this is the 260FS Model.:ro) The good thing about this is that I work for E*Trade Financial in the recreational dept so as an employee I get a discount on rate/unit price if I purchase it thru one of our approved dealers. I want something a couple yrs old because someone already lost out on it. :D
http://home.comcast.net/~forddude/images2/gb7.JPG
D-Maxx 04-18-2005, 06:43 PM That's what I just got!! I just got mine this weekend. Only got about 9 mpg towing to Seward and back at about 70mph. I can't wait to get it out somewhere a little farther away from civilization. :ro)
Mike330R 04-19-2005, 02:16 PM Nice trailers guys!
maybe we should have a campout weekend in So Cal?
SLEEZ 04-19-2005, 11:45 PM HDrado,
I just purchased the same trailer, still waiting for it to come off the assembly line. Be sure to get one with the build date after 12/04. They had some delam. issues with the older ones. A lot of dealers will have the Gearboxes on the lot but check the build date because almost all will have the older build date. Another way to tell the older Gearboxes is by the Fleetwood writing on the front. The older ones will have Fleetwood in straight black block letters, newer ones with the slanted blue letters.
