My "new to me" 1500HD just failed the OBD Emission test at the shop. Funny thing is NO CES light? Yes, the ces light works. What type of failure/sensor/datalogger/event might be causing this? Not looking for a remedy right now just some ideas on what it could be, any thoughts?
TIA- Dave

TIA- DaveDon't know about PA but here in MA if it doesn't pass inspection you can take it back and have the seller fix it or refund your money. It is up to the seller (as long as he is not selling it for salvage or parts) to make sure it will pass state inspection. Just a thought.

How did it fail? Did it have history codes stored or did they use a sniffer on the tailpipe

No sniffer in PA. just that it wouldn't pass on the OBD plug in test. See my post on the fuel sender? I'm not sure he has the history codes, he really is kind of yutz as mechanics go, but an old friend.. yada-yada-yada

I didnt think there was a sniff for the newer ones there either. Must have had a stored code. I know here in Maryland, any stored code and they will fail it, even if it is history. Get it cleared and have it retested.
