Has anyone done this to their truck? How do you get the water pump pulley to stay on the water pump?

put nuts on the studs

What studs? Mine has one big nut going from the fan to the pulley, and I am guessing through the pump.

Mine has just one big nut in the center. It is connected to the fan, then goes through the pulley and the the pump. That is what it looks like to me anyway

Could take the fan off the fan clutch.;)

I could, but I need to remove the clutch and all. I thought about cutting that big nut. I know on the duramax the pulley is pressed on the water pump. I wander if mine is pressed on?

Ive installed electric fans, and removed the clutch fan assembly.
Unless you got sumtin special going on, look just in front of the water pump pulley. there should be 4 nuts/studs holding the clutch fan hub onto the water pump. Remove those nuts from the studs and the hub, clutch and fan should come right off as an assembly. Then put the four nuts back on the studs to secure the water pump pulley.

I'm gonna have to say that I have something special going on. There is not 4 nuts or bolts on the water pump assmbly. Just the one big one in the center.

that body style started on the 1500s in 99 but the 1-tons kept the "old" style a bit longer. unless this truck is custom(besides being lowered) it didn't exist in 1999, as the dually 1-tons didn't have that body style until i believe 2001. i'm not saying its not his truck i'm just saying some serious work went into it to get the body lines and everything to match perfectly. if i had the time to put that much work into my truck i probably wouldn't recognize it.

What is your VIN? That will tell us more about your truck. It does not look like no 1999 too me! They did not offer that front end on a 2500 or 3500 truck till 2001. What motor do you have in your truck? Because if it is a 2001 or 2002 medel it will have an LB7 Duramax not a 6.5TD. If you did all the work yourself and have pics share your wealth. I am sure their is alot of people that would like to upgrade their truck too look newer, if it does not cost too much.
If it does have a 6.5TD I would stick with the stock fan and not go electric. If the 6.5TD worked cooler on electric fans I think they would have got them from the factory that way. Their is alot of vehicles from GM in 1999 that did come with electric fans but, a 6.5TD is not one of them. Too me their has to be a reason for that. I have read on here why but do not remember all the facts to quote it. If you want to upgrade the factory fan their is plenty of help on here for that.
Wish you luck!

The truck is a 99. The front end is off of a 2003. The front sheet metal was all grafted onto the truck to fit.

All 2003 chevrolet trucks have the slant eyed headlights. Only the suburban and tahoe have the front end you have.
Something smells funny around here!

What a classic misadventure. It took you guys 9 posts to ask the guy what year his truck was... there are 2 different fan/water pump configurations, one which has 4 bolts, and one with a single bolt. Finding out the year of the truck should be mandatory before answering ANY questions.

Good catch, Matt... you win the prize for asking the salient question.

It is most likely a 02 HD front end grafted onto a 99 CCLB Dually OBS truck from the pics...look at the mirrors and body lines on the doors, box, etc...
The Tahoes and Suburbans Did not have that front end in 03, similar but not exactly the same, as he has the "bullnose" HD hood, rather than the sloping 1/2 ton and SUV hood.

974door-That is an impressive swap on the front end! Did you do the work yourself?

You have a stock 99 fan & fan clutch. Use the present water pump less the fan blade & fan clutch . You should carry the parts though for overheating if it happens!!!

Look inside a Sport truck or Truckin magazine and you will find kits to adapt newer front clips on the older GM trucks.

The truck is a 99. The front end is an 03 1/2 ton grill shell with a hd hood and bumper. It is a 6.5 with the single bolt on it. I had to make a tool to hold the water pump while I broke the nut loose. Got the fans installed and everything works great. And yes the wheels are 22.5's. They were on the truck when I bought it. I will be swapping them out for some milled down 22. If anybody has some aluminum 22.5's for sale, give me a shout. I need 2 fronts and 2 rears. Don't have to be in perfect shape, I will be powder coating them.

Sure he can. Just hit the little switch and raise up the front. I'm betting those steels aren't machined down for 22's. They still look kick ass.

Why hasn't anyone told 974door to put his truck info in his signature so we don't have to ask all the questions to give him help. Maybe that is what he wants though with the pavement princess.

thats not a 2003 HD front end...its a 2001/2002...

nothing on that front end is 1/2 ton either. The grille and hood are both HD parts..

sweet looking truck, never seen anything like it with the front end conversion.
