I was looking through the FAQ's and was thinking it would be really nice to have a part numbers list with lowest prices found and multiple terminoligies for the same item like (PMD and FSD) and accronyms like (CDR) broken down for everyone to utilize. Pictures would eliminate alot of confusion as well.

Anyone with an all data account could copy and paste the entire list.

Pictures would eliminate alot of confusion as well. The way the FAQs work I link to an existing thread sort of same info one could come up with on there own doing a search, I did the search for you and pasted the hyper link into FAQ

start a new thread with what you want to see others can add to it and I'll add the hyperlink to that thread, so when/if it gets burried in a couple of months worth or even a years worth of posts the info can be easily found.

So feel free to add anything you want you deem significant and I'll link it if I think it has wide range group appeal; a common part # thread would certainly meet that criteria I also like to add positive educational threads like some of GMCTDs & TDGs how it works info ones that wind up with a lot of infighting i don't link or I'll edit out non pertinent stuff.

This is why I ping on folks to stay on topic, if shifting gears in mid topic to a side bar discussion it detracts from my & others ability to make something substantitive for the next guy or gal that visits that might be just looking for the answer a thread may contain but gets hidden from view.

As far as posting prices I'll not link that 2 reasons, would be a management nightmare to stay on top of what is current, in age of ebay, google et als, that info can be found by anybody in minutes, 2 how fair is it to the advertisers that pay for the ability for us to post for free to give their competition a posted price list for them to try and compete against.

I'm all for free enterprise and bargan hunting; but just as a Mod can't sanction what amounts to free advertising as a permanent fixture, hard line to manage; we allow links to other sites but if it's something anybody could find on their own thru a bit of research that meets a litmus test of some acceptability as long as not carried to extreeme.

But a comprehensive list of prices of folks out there that don't pay to advertise here is over the top, feel free to take my position on that up with the management of the site I'll defer to what they say. If you spend some thought on it though, I think you might see where I'm coming from.

TD is correct.

A list of part #'s is a great thing and sounds quite useful. However i've never been a fan of posting prices, especially when they may change. I don't think its too hard for the members to find their part number and then shop their vendor of choice for the part. As this site is paid for by supporting vendors i would encourage people to support those who keep the doors open.

Thanks for the responses. I wouldn't want to upset the supporting vendors either, and I have bought products from many of them. For prices I was actually refering to things that are common failing and range inprice dramatically. Case in point, local dealer wanted $280 for the crank pulley. Autozone claimed that they didn't carry such an item, so I considered myself lucky when I found it on gmpartsdirect for @$120, then a couple of weeks later someone in this forum said that autozone did have it and it was less than $60. This difference is not only frustrating, because this part is "Weak at best design" but the difference could have been spent on more performance goodies instead of lining the pockets of corporate giants. Another part which we all know and LOVE is the FSD/PMD, which has a very similar story as the one above.

The autozone story was the reason for this thread because I didn't know their terminology for the item I needed so they couldn't find it in their system, causing them to have a NO SALE on an item they carry and at the best price, and me having to do more foot work and spend more $$$, you get the idea.

I look to the supporting vendors for performance products. The parts I'm talking about are known, common failing, bad design factory "Rip Off" parts. I.E. PMD/FSD, oil cooling lines, crank pulley, hydro-boost(rebuilds), headlight switch, things that are neccesary for function but are of little or no performance value.

As to the pricing I would not suggest claiming responsibility for keeping current, but this is the diesel place where we go for answers. The "Last Known Good" place is a great place to start when looking for anything. Example: Crank Pulley----Store----part#*****----$60----Jan 05

Thanks again for your considerations.

MDT go ahead and maybe start a common part list thread for reference and maybe start a second thread listing bad experiences or rip off practices

If we could reference the prices and part number it would help people make an intelligent decision about where to invest their dollars and serve as a refernce for getting past parts counter guys who can't seem to find your part.

For Example I just ordered PN#33872 "B" shift solenoid 15.99 from www.drivetrain.com (http://www.drivetrain.com)
I was just reading how hard it was to find it.
